$20 Show Alert [Japanese psych content]

Forums:

If you're into heavier Krautrock, you will love these guys. Probably the best band playing this style of music right now, and one of the best bands I've heard live.

3_4.jpg

Wow, thank you for posting this. They're playing in my city for only $10- definitely a must see.

Just sorry I didn't post it before they started the East Coast stretch. They're sick. I highly recommend you check 'em out when they come to town.

Streaming Mammatus Clouds- hearing "Pond" live has to be incredible. Anyhow, they appear to be headlining with three opening bands. $2.50 a band? Are you kidding me? ;)

They play a strong merch game, probably helps to put gas in the tank.

Live is unreal. At home listening with a book of prints by Salvador Dalí, equally as good, in a different way.

Green Milk From the Planet Orange

I'm hoping to catch them on a Sunday night in SF.  Look at that tour: 14 straight nights going from NW (into Canada), down the coast, then across the US to Atlanta.  Wow!

And thanks for the notice, Ateix.  I'm gonna bring by earplugs.

Does Kikagaku Moyo have a gong on stage?

Earplugs might be good. I will say that Moon Duo, in the same venue about a week back, were crushingly, bruisingly loud. Kikagaku Moyo had more of a nice long-range projection thing going on, rather than the space madness of Moon Duo's insanely loud sound. They were fucking great, too, though. Did a sick cover of the Stooges' "No Fun."

No gong. Dude has a deceptively simple kit setup. He gets a good "gong" sound out of the ride symbol, for sure.
Could be a cultural thing?

Going to see these guys at the Independent, with Danny James and his Once and Future Band opening. Can't wait!

Seems interesting, but I'm no fan of the Independent.

A cramped, stuffy square box, unless you can get upstairs, but then the sound is often not as good up there. Plus most of the people up there are just yakking all night.

Still, pretty groovy Floydian stuff.

We'll see.

Thanks for the heads up.

Just a quick listen to some live stuff is all it took for me to heartily endorse this event and/or product.

Thanks, ateix.

threads like this is just what this place needs!

>>Danny James and his Once and Future Band

Once and Future Band is a band on its own with a great debut on Castle Face Records. They are also Danny's backup band. I did a show with DJ&OAFB in 2015.

Why is the egg sitting atop what appears to be a dookie leaking oil?

Cause Japanese psych is the craziest, msn

Yeah this shit is fire.

Like that Green Milk from an Orange Planet. Thanks for the link.

Watching a couple of Japanese movie boxes:

Nikkatsu Noir - I Am Waiting, Rusty Knife, Take Aim at the Police Van, Cruel Gun Story, A Colt isMy Passport

Stray Cat Rock ( Mieko Jaki from Lady Snowblood) - Delinquent Girl Boss, Wild Jumbo, Sex Hunter, Machine Animal, Beat '71

And Mothra...

More psyche please.

Sup Ateix.

Thanks for the tip, hombre.

More psyche please? youtube Mainliner, High Rise, Les Rallizes Denudes, Fusitsusha, Keiji Haino, Flower Travellin Band, Up-Tight, Rovo, King Brothers, Kawabata Makoto

Oh and also White Heaven, the greatest Quicksilver Messenger Service ripoff band of all time, they are basically better than QMS

Keiji Haino, eh? Looking to give the dude a heart attack? haha

Thanks Franklin, will investigate.

Well, I kinda think this Kikagayu band is a little soft and derivative and not remotely as interesting as a lot of Japanese psych bands... just my take. People love them in SF, they are playing the Independent which is a big venue for a psych band of any sort.  (disclosure - I've been to Japan 4 times, 3 to play music)

I think part of the problem is that newer bands automatically get lumped in with and compared to lineups like AMT, or Keiji Heino, when they're playing in vastly different arenas of composition.

You wouldn't compare a band like Ghost to Keiji, right? In that instance, the fact that they're Japanese is kind of arbitrary. A group like Ghost shares a lot more ground with an outfit like Bardo Pond than it does with the work of Kawabata Makoto in Acid Mothers.

Love the name of the guy the created the youtube Les posted above

guy has some cool stuff on his channel. noticed the name before (hard to forget).

>>>Well, I kinda think this Kikagayu band is a little soft and derivative and not remotely as interesting as a lot of Japanese psych bands...

They're definitely on the softer, krautrock side of things but I like the use of More dynamics and melody.

I love Amt but I would never listen to more than a song or 2 at a time of most of those thrashing noise Rock psyche bands.

They do get lumped in with the older Japanese bands a bit I guess but I don't think this band is derivative of Japanese psych, they are derivative of American psych. There's even one part towards the end of "tall grass" LP that is a straight GD Dancin in the Streets jam from 1970. Nothing wrong with that, that helps their popularity here.

I love AMT too, but mainly just the early Cotton Casino era.... I really enjoy hearing Kawabata play guitar but am not really into the current version of the touring band, I think the last time I saw them was over 10 years ago.

I haven't seen them for at least 7 yrs myself.

have they changed that much?

i feel like I saw a festival set on YouTube from a couple years back with the newer bassist that seemed like pretty standard Amt.

I like this better than AMT.  I'd be curious to know whether they extend/improvise on the material live (AMT did not the 2 times I saw them, it was exactly the same as the studio album, down to the guy who "played" the Siren).  But I probably wouldn't have traveled to Boston or NYC for it (being in the 'tween Wasteland of CT, we miss out on practically Everything).

Keiji haino looks to me kinda like a Japanese demon possessed the resurrected corpse of Andy Warhol.

any zoners want to collaborate on writing that manga and/or anime?

Also listened to Rudy McDoobie's link (Green Milk from Planet Orange) & was not noticeably impressed (singing is downright JRAD Cringeworthy, but @ least it's not Loose Lucy) as I busied myself preparing Dinner.  Then, as I sat down to eat, I all of a sudden had a "WOW THIS IS GREAT" moment, only to discover the original link was over & You Tube Autoplayed the "Up Next" selection, which is this (apparently from Brazil of all places).  Now THIS could be AWESOME if they expanded/improvised on it live:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK_5-qL3xDU

"Eternal Tapestry - Beyond the 4th Door"  Reminds me of the John Zorn/Bill Laswell album Buck Jam Tonic

This came up next, some of it's OK, lots of '70's stoner rock influence (UFO, Wishbone Ash, Budgie, etc), they're from Greece:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNjyvtjAmUo

I gotta say, I find You Tube to be better @ suggesting stuff than Spotify . . .

>>"Eternal Tapestry - Beyond the 4th Door

Eternal Tapestry is from PNW, Oregon specifically; not Brazil. If you're looking for some good Brazilian psych, try this

Yantra - Drones e Excursões de Guitarras Rumo ao Desconhecido Vol. 2
https://yantrayantra.bandcamp.com/album/drones-e-excurs-es-de-guitarras-...

Might not work for you. Worked for me.

Also, Spotify is fucking garbage.

OK thanks, I'll listen to that Brazilian band after this, which I'm also enjoying very much, sounds a lot like stuff I listened to in high school:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vpOHq8bkzA

Yeah not crazy about Spotify but got on it for ulterior reasons I can't quite yet reveal ;)

Thought they were Brazilian 'cause some of the commenters in YouTube were from Brazil.

Yes that Brazilian stuff was enjoyable - sitar w/electric guitar - I've dabbled in Indian classical music & jazz influenced by it.

Back in the mid '80's when the band Oregon had the Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu in the band they were THE SHIT.  One of the few small gigs/ bands I'd dose for.  They used to play the Ironhorse several times a year.  They'd start with a piece & then just jam for 10-20-30 min's, mind blowing shit.  We have recordings of most of those shows, not the greatest quality, some old time tapers are finally putting a lot of our old recordings up on Dime a Dozen.

^^

listened to that album a few days ago, pretty cool.

might have to try and go see these guys next weekend.

that Brazilian psych was interesting, I thought the second track was a little reminiscent of portions of the no pussyfooting album.

that's neat u saw so much Oregon at their peak, Bob.

i've only heard a little of their studio stuff and it didn't grab me too much but I've read that jimmy herring and oteil r big fans.

I've been listening to a lot of Another Green World, but haven't reached peak Fripp/Eno quite yet. To that end, Fripp & Eno Live in Paris May 28, 1975 is really, really sick. Check it out if you haven't. The CD includes the isolated tracks that they manipulated live to layer upon one another for the cyclical, looping effect.

As far as Oregon goes, Colin Wolcott's work in Codona (with Don Cherry and Naná Vasconcelos) is far and away more interesting than his stuff with Oregon. ECM put out a box set collecting all three of their albums, it's super good.

>>>>>>> Let's get this thread back on track:

You only got rid of me for 1 night - PSYCH!!!!!!!

Yeah Oregon was great live but their studio recordings never did much for me - they were kind of the "masthead" band for all that WIndham Hill/New Age/Elevator Music back then.

You guys must know about Steve Tibbetts, he's kind of in the same "ballpark" of dark psychedelic jazz.  Seen him live a few times & have a few of his cd's, enjoyed them all.

Oh yeah, I do have all those CODONA albums & enjoy them a lot.  Not sure if they ever played live, would have liked to have seen it if they did.  Don Cherry actually opened for the GD back in the early '90's @ Cal Expo, I didn't go but heard most Deadheads were not into it.  Too bad he didn't play with the GD like Branford, Ornette, & David Murray.

>> they were kind of the "masthead" band for all that WIndham Hill/New Age/Elevator Music back then.

Not even in the same ballpark.

Don Cherry was probably a little too out there to play with the Dead. BUT his "Brown Rice" LP is certainly in the Deadhead wheelhouse, I think you have to be very open minded to get into his Eternal Now era stuff. Maybe his live records Blue Lake and Orient.... extremely good rhythm section on those

OK granted they weren't on Windham Hill but lots of folks "lumped them in" with that "genre", thus why I never really bothered listening to them until I saw them live.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_(band)

& yes also of course I'm an Ignoramus from Row House Phila . . .

No, it's not just... yeah. Okay, man.

Anyway.

Surprised no one has mentioned Magical Power Mako yet. The 1973 album and the album Blue Dot are both pretty crucial.

Well shit.

I'd love to see the once and future band open for these guys but I don't want to take any of Monday off work, so wtf?

ive been meaning to get up to Eugene for a while and think I just might go for it.

If this ends up not being worth my time, effort and $ I'm holding u personally responsible, ateix.

any zoners want to hit up the hifi with me on sat and see what's up with these wacky Japanese cats?

I probably want to miss the show, but how 'bout meeting up before it?

I'd love to say hey, Judit.

Would also really appreciate recommendations on the most worthwhile things to do, see, eat in the area during my limited time in the area, affordable but not too scummy places to stay, etc.

dust off that sleepy college town.

the furious E is coming up to get freaky, east Asian psych style!

Damn, Furious E that's like a third of a day's drive to get up there, isn't it? Hell yeah dude. Scope out some cool shit while you're up there.

The bill for that night has Sugar Candy Mountain opening, and I've heard some good press on them. Probably be a chill, if unassuming, opener. Just exactly right for the hour-plus journey of exploratory psych that Kikagaku Moyo will lead you into. I guarantee you'll enjoy what goes down at that show.

Obviously I have no idea what there is in the way as far as record stores up there go, but there are some regional area psych bands that are probably well-represented in the stacks... if you do end up in a wax shop, I recommend you keep an eye out for any Eternal Tapestry, Pranacrafter, Phil Elverum (The Microphones / Mount Eerie)... anything you pick up and maybe don't like: hit me up, let me know, I'll buy 'em from you and pay shipping.

To be honest, I'm a little jealous but I'll be heading out Saturday into the hinterlands west of my city to hear some guitar madness, myself... band is Elkhorn, and they have been described as an "Americana Popol Vuh"... lol. Fuckin' A.

CT knows more about this than I do, but we do have a couple of good record stores: House of Records (mostly used) and Skip's CD World, which has records both new and used. Are there others?

E, are you looking for outdoor or indoor things to see, do? Weather is supposed to be sunny this weekend, though who really knows... lots of food, all different types. I don't know very much about places to stay, let's email.

ateix, would be cool if you were here, too.

More like 1/5th of a day drive for me, A-dawg.

shit, really only like an 1.5 hr drive more than seeing them at the independent, even less if traffic was Super stupid.

good call on the record stores, hadn't thought about that.

Imagine they gotta have at least one kick ass bookstore up there as well, right?

I'm cool with outdoor or indoor sights, Judit.

Though for outdoor recommendations I'd prefer they b nothing short of spectacular as I've become a wee spoiled living so close to so much spectacularness in no. Cal.

Also nothing too strenuous or time consuming as my time is limited.

as far as food goes I've been on a primarily vegan diet lately and would greatly appreciate Recs of that nature, especially if they're not too pricey or pretentious.

ill send u an email shortly.

thanks, everybody!

y'all r the Japanese psychedelic wind beneath my wings.

Hey, have some more of that shit:

Midori Takada - Through The Looking Glass
https://youtu.be/DWGjYg2LmZQ

Thanks, that album has just the right amount of contemplative, ambient, trippiness to prepare me for my journey to the land beyond the great mountain.

We have good local new/used bookstores. Smith Family by the University is vast and has an amazing assortment. Tsunami is interesting and alive. J. Michael's is excellent, too. You might look them up. Also, I have some of Greg's books you might be interested in, and if you are I'd love to give them to you.

Most restaurants around here have vegan options, and there are some that specialize. I love good food, but since I don't think about where the vegan is I don't know of many that specialize but I hear that Cornbread is quite good. Morning Glory, too. Might be as well to pick a restaurant that sounds good and order what sounds good (and vegan). Other people around here might make suggestions.

email sent

Thanks, Judit.

I certainly wouldn't mind taking a gander at greg's books.

I imagine there's some pretty cool stuff in there.

And I feel like i've heard good things about tsunami and cornbread so I might need to check those out!

Was not that into the Magical Power Mako that I heard but that was just one record. gonna check it out more though

Love that album. Fucking epic. Forget to mention it here, but that's one of the best.

Pretty psyched that Furious E is embarking on this spiritual journey to the east by heading north and guided in part by Judit's wisdom. Godspeed. Keep me in mind if you do any disc digging, friend.

Bump for a psychedelic sunrise on the left coast, which is that much closer to the land of the rising sun, and therefore that much more... psychedelic, I guess. E!

have fun stormin oregon

Just got back back.

My god, what a wonderful excursion that was for me, and the show was pretty decent too.

i'll elaborate later.

right now i'm gonna go rest and veg. out on twin peaks.

All I'll say for the time being is that I hope some zoners made it to the independent tonight.

I'm bettin it'll b one of the best shows of the tour.

Kikagaku moyo shredded.

totally rad sound. I've been spinning the LP I bought from them the last couple days. The opener sugar candy mountain were good too..  dreamy California coast vibes.. bought their album '666', check it out if you've got a second.

fun partying with you furious E, catch ya next time...!

Nice visit, E. I enjoyed all of the time we spent together, including the viva discussions.

See you next time.

What hath I wrought with this thread?

I tell u what thou hath wrought, ateix.

i feel that this thread represents the best of what a forum like this was designed for.

here u have 4 guys enjoying an undersold show and supporting a band they would have never even known about had someone on the other side of the country they'd never met not recommended it.

And big ups to Moses, ct and even the infamous og for showing up to that show last minute and even dropping extra coin on some of that strong merch game the moyo b pimpin.

u were all excellent company and I thank u for contributing to my Eugenesis.

and always wonderful to see Judit, of course!

The day was such a wonderful experience that  from now on in this thread I will only answer to the name, Furious Eugenius of love.

from the time I got up Saturday morning to the time I lost consciousness 25 hrs later was one of the fullest days I've ever had.

somewhere along the line I crossed over into a type of deadhead equivalent of a David lynch imagined reality.

i'm talking owls, cherry pie, transcendental meditation, cinematic post modern surrealism, all that shit.

by the time I was watching the first band of the evening, Snow White, a wee bit trippy, post Rock flavored, husband and wife duo dressed a little like euro trash, While nearly twice as many patrons pleasantly enjoyed cocktails and a taco truck on the patio, it was obvious this was indeed the case.

last thing I remember before a drugged like sleep finally overtook me was sitting in a small room with a friendly, backwards talking dwarf as jazzy music played in the background.....

Or maybe that was just Og at Moses' place?....

Hmmmm...

oh well, regardless I'll b back later with more details about the show and my stop at eugene's house of records the following day.

^ sounds absolutely wonderful Furious Eugenius of love!

Went to see the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. Composer-in-residence Glenn Kotche (Wilco) premiered his new percussion piece Infinite Trees. Excellent evening of music for $20.  Also on the program:  Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 6 and Dvořák’s Carnival Overture. Decided to share here- I love $20 shows!

image_87.jpegHell yes!

That sounds great.

i loves me some $20 shows and some 4winds.

i'll see u in the infinite trees, Sarah: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5jkKh1ZfYAo

i'll also try and finally get back here with thoughts on the show and my record store experience by the end of the day.

Please excuse the the delay, been busy with work, anniversary, psych rock overload induced psychosis, black lodge, etc...

>>i'll see u in the infinite trees, Sarah: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5jkKh1ZfYAo

what a cool event

Jim James looking fancy.

Yep, put on his evening jacket for that one

nice thread. Gotta go check out some different stuff as i don't even know more than 2 bands mentioned here. Thanks for the tips! And yay to Eugene and my fond memories and friends there.

Alright, so sugar candy mountain was alright.

sounded a little bit like the less talented offspring of mazzy star and Kurt vile, but there's plenty of room for growth and I dig their vintagey vibe but still somewhat fresh sound.

speaking of hybridized vintage 60's American psychedelic sound, I was surprised to feel that vibe a little bit from kikaguku moyo.

On at least a few songs it almost felt like a meld of that early American psychedelia of groups like the Paul butterfield blues band's east to west and a more modern Japanese psych approach.

I really like the results of that combo.

it sure felt right to me at a tiny northwest club on a Saturday night.

and that lounge sure was tiny especially compared to the independent they were playing the following day.

that sounds like it was a big gig for them and I hope they nailed it.

the larger hifi hall appeared to have been rented out by Some half full, bizarro, private dance party that would resemble an Asian stripper's quinceanera if such a thing existed.

Anyhow, i felt the material kikaguku moyo started with was kind of weak and uneventful but after a few songs things really picked up and by the end they were pretty smoking.

really enjoyed the interweaving lines of guitar and electric sitar and the bass tone was really killer on the last couple songs.

this band definitely has a softer, more approachable sound than a lot of the other bands in their genre, but they still get into some rockin, stone cold grooves.

I think most zoners would enjoy it.

i even took my ear plugs out half way through.

they seemed like a really down to earth gracious group of guys too.

if their sound continues to improve, mature and grow they'll b quite a force to b reckoned with.

next up, last minute record store splurges...

Your tale warms the cockles of my heart, Furious E. I want you to know that.

I've thought a few times since you were here, E, that your Saturday evening must have been a bit like a visit with a (cool) mom, then getting together with your buds. Kind of funny.

:::ahem::: :::cough::: :::cough:::

>>>from now on in this thread I will only answer to the name, Furious Eugenius of love.

You're a cockle-warmer, Furious Eugenius of Love. A real cockle-warmer.

Anyhow, the morning arrived suddenly, or maybe it had been there all long?

i must have gotten at least 5hrs sleep but the amount of experience I crammed into the preceding 25 hrs, b it being hypnotized by sonic wizardry from the Far East, the hours of super scenic driving, visiting cool moms from alternate timelines, witnessing local bookstore open mic middle-aged amateur poetry slams, being treated to ice cream by U of O coeds who I had somehow been acquainted with in past lives, Microdosing amongst captive birds of prey in the countryside (I was crowned their furious Eagle King, btw. many battles and crusades were waged in my name amongst the beautiful backdrop of the cascades, but that's another story for another day.) or all of the other numerous activities i engaged in that day, made all sense of time practically non-existent.

it became clear to me that if I didn't get back home before sunset, the hetty siren song of Oregon would swallow me whole like quicksand and I'd wind up the lead character of 'around the fire: walk me', David lynch's ill advised remake of 'around the fire'.

Powered by nothing more than ganja, a delicious homemade smoothie from Moses, and his energizing choice live GD cuts continued from the previous evening to get my morning going (guy really knows his shit btw, totally aces) I set out for my final stop before the long journey home: the house of records.

when I arrived I found a small but very organized store specializing in new copies of re-released older vinyl.

no signs of ateix's suggestions, which was disappointing cause I was really hoping to pick up some eternal tapestry, and I usually record shop for choice used vinyl selections, so hurdles presented themselves immediately.

Re-issues of lefty frizzle and the everly brothers immediately caught my eye.

should I finally buy the cd of father John misty's 'pure comedy'?

lords knows I've streamed it enough, it would only b right, but no!

not today, not this trip, today was a different beast altogether and these purchases would not do.

With time running out, funds dwindling, and the chemical make up of my body now more THC and microbrew than man, this was going to b interesting......

Oh and sorry for the typo, that ill fated lynch project that will hopefully never see the light of day is of course titled "around the fire walk with me"

:::shudder:::

to E continued...

Can't believe it's been almost 2 weeks since I left Eugene, but the glory of my EuGenesis still hasn't left me.

here's what I left with from the house of records:

used cds:

david byrne's 'grown backwards' (not his best but it might grow on me, his stuff usually does)

david byrne's 'David Byrne' (one of his better solo efforts, certainly worth having. I bought this cd and the last one to get pumped for the psycho genius reunion on 7/8 in Sacramento, hope to see some zoners in attendance! *See ZMA thread )

new cds:

Heavy psych sounds volume 2 *German import* ( this wacky sampler is up and down but kinda fun and interesting)

Paleons 'hyperborean' (local heavy instrumental space psych band from Eugene, not too shabby and was happy to support some local cosmonauts)

used vinyl:

George Winston 'winter into spring'

windam hill 'live: an evening with

Steven halpern and Georgia kelly 'ancient echos'

(All 3 of these were only a couple $ a piece from their new age/esoteric section.

they're way cheesy but fit well into my surreal lynchian mindset at the time and were great for unwinding from the long drive home and getting stoned prior to diving back into twin peaks.

you're all probably familiar with George Winston but that 'ancient echoes' record was made by some 70's music psychologist harpist/synth/vocalists.

A very Caucasian couple with oversized glasses, collars, vests and Afros.

the cover has a cartoon pastel cartoon pyramid and columns, nuff said)

new vinyl:

Flower travellin' band 'satori' *reissue* (probably my coolest purchase of the day and the most relevant to this thread. A reissue reaching back to some of the earliest roots of Japanese psych that even made the store clerk I bought it from giddy with delight.

after spending some time with it, they might b the ones responsible for the 60's influence I heard coming through kikagaku moyo.

pretty cool shit: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BxB55yaWG-I

i also bought a residents pin for a dollar at checkout as an impulse buy.

cause I'm like down with those guys, maaaan....

so there u go, $20 show alert (Japanese psych content) thread.

from hell's heart I stab at thee!

Real nice report, Sir Furious Eugenius. I'd love to give that Ancient Echoes disc a listen.

A little private press new-age ambient music never hurt anybody.

I caught up with OG last night and we were chatting about some recent-ish shows we had seen. He mentioned one in particular that sounded pretty familiar, down to the Zoners in attendance. After he showed me a pic of the poster he had signed I had to laugh. It's a small world after all...

poster.jpg

Double post - ooops! (Haven't had any coffee yet)

Good morning y'all!

Nice to see you posting McDoobie! I have been viva-free-ish for a few weeks or more, and I'm glad to see that you bumped this thread as I wanted to give Furious Eugenius some good words about his visit to the 541.

First off, I want to thank ateix for giving us the time of day, and music recommendations. I'm not sure how you ended up being part of this group, but glad you are in the mix. Your posts that got OG worked up were always a plus with me. (Same rules apply for anyone that got those orange feathers ruffled, fwiw). yes

Furious Eugenius of Love, if you are still going by that name, it was great to see you up here. I still can't believe how much stuff you did that day. Wowza! Really enjoyed your enthusiasm and love for the music, too. CT and OG were a nice surprise, as well. Pretty funny that there was a small zoner gathering going on there at the hifi. FEoheart, did you have a burrito and pizza after the show? Strong work, if yes.

Great times with great people--can't ask for anything more. laugh

ps YES, CHILDREN, YES!!!!!

Would love to hear from anyone who's catching dates on Kikagaku's current tour. Their new album is awesome.

Kikagaku Moyo - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)

Recorded 8/01/2018 - 28:02

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8y3nM6tEqw&feature=youtu.be

we are seeing them at the 40Watt on friday.

we are very excited.

I'm glad I saw them again. The new album is good. Wish I'd ordered it sooner.

I saw a great show of pure improvisation in SF last night for $15.

Fred Frith played a set of total weirdness with a violin player and percussionist, then a duo with Phillip Greenlief on sax & Joelle Leandre on bass went WAY outside.

I knew of Greenlief but I'd never heard of Leandre; she was simply amazing.

This was another one I almost didn't go to because I'm getting creaky in my advancing years, but I'm so glad I forced myself to make the drive because it turned out to be one of the best shows I've seen all year.

Note to self:

GO TO THE SHOW!!!

I need to check out this new kikagaku album and Joelle leandre

Bump for that footage 4winds posted and cause this thread rules!

one of the best shows i've seen this year.

Just seeing this thread. Might be a while before these guys come back to town.

I don't know, they seem to b touring pretty hard.

i'm still kicking myself for not going to that jujuuuuujuuuu, kikagaku, earthless triple bill at the great American though.

now that is something that don't happen everyday.

Sounds like an excellent bill.

The Austin show last Tuesday was pretty swirly. Would love to see them back here for Levitation next year.

They played Austin last week!? Lol. My bad.

They're back on tour. Central park tonight, Portland tomorrow(sold out) Cambridge and Greenfield Ma monday and tues.

Go see them
