1991 Summer

Mile High Stadium on 6-28-91 was (as they say) the high.  Band was in fine form.  Best Picasso Moon ever.

But that was also my one and only meh Santana show.  It was the day after he got busted coming back from Mexico with a guitar case full of weed and Carlos wasn't feeling the love energies.

The Deer Creek shows in 1991 were my favorite post Brent show run. Had a taper at the hotel playing back the shows in the rented Cadillac after the events of the day.

The SOTM from 6/7 is astounding!

Thanks for the links!

Love that rippin' Jack Straw from 6/6! Thanks!

Deer Creek is fire. The entire summer has IT moments galore.

My favorite highlight from the 1991 summer tour will always be the Eyes of the World opener from Giants Stadium 6/17. This was a very good show with Dark Star teases all over the first set.

Deer Creek was amazing, beautiful venue and two high energy shows, very tight.  Buckeye was so-so, enjoyable but nothing special.

>Eyes of the World opener from Giants Stadium 6/17

Had to work at 5am the next morning and had to sell my tickets to this show in the lot.  I distinctively remember cringing as we were walking away from the stadium when they opened with eyes.  We were served a cold plate of Picasso Moon the night before.

Traded the tickets for a half sheet and a bag of purple buds.  By the time we road back to CT a 10 strip was gone.  It sure was an interesting day at work.

So you sold the ticket because you had to work at 5:00 the next morning and then ate a bunch of acid?

Did it occur to you that you could have done that at the show?

If I stayed for the second night there was no way I was getting back to CT, cleaned up and to work by 5am.  Even at the young age of 17 blowing off work wasn't my thing.

It was just our good fortune that the ticket provided us an amusing ride home and a very strange next day at work.

i worked that show and a few others on the 91 tour...i'd have to say that the 6/17 first set was trippy start to finish..Bruce was pushing all the teases...

Loved that RFK show.  For GA shows we always got about 15 feet in front of the soundboard for the ultimate sound from the Wolds Best Hi Fi.  This was the only time they put seats on the field and we thought our streak was over.  But mail order came through with seats in almost the exact location we usually went for, and then a row about 10 rows up never filled up so we moved up even closer.

I think DC had more Dark Stars ('90, '91, '92, '93) than any other city in the late era other than Oakland.

Wow. I've never seen that Buck Henry bit. As I was just watching it I recalled that I actually had a very small hand in the making of that.

Such a long time ago.

Hard to believe that in 1991 a famous musician had to smuggle a few lbs. from Mexico. Dude!

I was living in the bay area at the time and recall seeing this on the evening news. I remember them sort of making fun of him on the news for this at the time.

The rock guitarist CARLOS SANTANA pleaded no contest yesterday in a Houston court to a charge of possessing marijuana. Judge NEEL RICHARDSON of Harris County Criminal Court gave him a six-month deferred sentence; the charges will be dismissed if he has no other drug violations. He was ordered to make a $100 contribution to a local charity and must play a concert in Houston to benefit a drug rehabilitation center for young people.

Mr. Santana, 44 years old, was arrested June 27 at the Houston airport when five grams of marijuana was found in his luggage.

Mr. Santana's distinctive wailing guitar riffs made his 1970's hit "Black Magic Woman" a rock anthem of sorts.

That was it?   Its still hard to believe that people used to get arrested for that (well, I guess they still do in some places).  Sounds like he just forgot about it.  It's not like when Paul McCartney got busted in Japan in 1980 with a half-pound.
