So I was busy yesterday and didn't get a chance to put something up, but I felt like it mattered enough to be a day late.
Ten years ago on March 17th Phil Lesh played the first show in his Grate Room, officially opening Terrapin Crossroads.
A lot has been said about the place, both good & bad, but it WAS a clubhouse and an amazing array of fine music happened there, from the start all the way to the end, and a lot of us had a real good time there.
Thanks for a real good time Phil.

I only got to visit TXR once
I only got to visit TXR once (for a DNB show in the park last spring), but I got to visit the place virtually many times before that because about a week after TXR opened, they started doing webcasts. As it happened, I had just recently learned how to capture webcasts, and that's how my YouTube channel Couch Tour Captures got started.

YouTube doesn't allow you to upload large files at first, so the first P&F show I captured and published--March 25, 2012 with Larry Campbell, Jeff Chimenti, John Kadlecik, Grahame Lesh, Joe Russo, and Teresa Williams--was broken up into individual songs that I then reassembled in a playlist.

Thanks for the reminder Lance
Thanks for the reminder Lance. Has it only been 10 years?
The energy for those first shows was incredible. Once I forgot about the ticket price, i had a rocking good time. Wonderful memories of those early weeks. Fun band lineups.

What a great run. I know all
What a great run. I know all us local deadhead bar flies loved the place immensely, from first day to the last...literally. But later came to realize how impactful it was for local musician to have a place to fine tune skills, have a meal and pocket a few bucks. . Phil subsidized so much free music there it's really mind blowing.
I'd been following Stu Allen a bit and remember clearly Phil's "wholly shit this guy can play " look on his face the first time they played together...it was in the bar. And they just kept on playing together all over the Clubhouse. To many a fans delight. The music just never stopped.

Made it 3 times. Each time I
Made it 3 times. Each time I was just passing through on the 101 and decided it's a must stop for a deadhead like me.
First time was driving by and saw the sign from the freeway. OMG! Had to stop and it was a Sunday brunch, I was disheveled from the night before not realizing I'd be walking into Phil's establishment for the first time.
We made eye contact and He was not pleased to see me in that state at his venue.
Next time, again passing through. This time I was sheveled, stopped for dinner not knowing Phil was in the Grate Room that night with Karl D and tix were still on sale!! Undersold show WOOT!
Third time was on purpose. We got the skinny Phil was playing the bar that afternoon. We were 3rd in line waiting for the doors to open.
Phil played a short set for 15 people. 9 of them staff. Then he sat at the table next to us, enjoyed a sandwich then played a 2nd set to a fuller crowd.... Only time I've heard him sing Whiskey in a Jar
Thanks to all the staff!!!
