€1 Italian Houses

Forums:

Looking into this seriously.  Looks like you have to pledge at least €20,000 to upgrade them and plenty of red tape, but still a steal considering the potentials.

Anyone ever do this?

We have been thinking about renting something in Italy for 4-6 months after we sell the house and before we move farther south and semi retire. Maybe Croatia, decompress and get ready for the next phase of life. I laugh at my kids when they talk about taking a gap year to travel, but that is what I want a gap half year.

If you're thinking about getting a place in Tuscany, don't bother. There is really nothing available.

Croatia is beautiful.

I'd be all in on this €1 deal if I was in Europe.  But the fact that maybe I'd go over once a year doesn't seem worth it.

Well, we've always got Detroit.

They idea is that my SO would go in on it with her sisters and mom, who are of Italian descent and would like to spend time there anyway.  When its not in use by the family, it could be rented out as an AirBnB.

The cheap real estate isn't in Tuscany, but further south, especially in the heel of the boot.

Yeah, I have seen the $1 houses in Detroit.  Many of those places come with a giant overdue tax bill and are more of liability than anything.   Still, there are people taking advantage of the cheap real estate there and trying to the make the best of it.

Southern Spain is nice.

So is Southern Oregon.

Is there a way to translate that Ken?

I clean pools.
