LeperVanAtom, Vern Peltomaa, July 13,1965 - February 19, 2022

https://www.shaw-davis.com/obituary/Vern-Peltomaa

It's with an incredibly heavy heart that I share with you all that Vern passed away suddenly from a heart attack on February 19, 2022. He loved the zone, I often referred to it as his best friend. I'm his wife Linda. He was one of a kind, no replacement. He thought many of you were wonderful, and several of you he hoped to meet at a show one day (so did I). I will try to share pictures from Jorma's Fur Peace Ranch and other cool shows, but I won't have the stellar patience and clever eye that he had. Thank you for continuing to post classic zone stuff, I don't have the time to peruse the zone as he did, but I will do my best to check in more, to keep Vern alive on his favorite site. BTW, LeperVan Atom is an anagram of Vern Peltomaa.

Peace, Love, and Long Live the Zone,

Linda (Ice Blue Rose)

Such sad news to have to share. My heart goes out to you, Linda.

I never met Vern, but did get the chance to exchange a few emails with him last fall. He seemed like a kind and generous soul.

RIP Verne. May the four winds blow you safely home.

Linda, so sad and painful to hear this news, and as mike said, such sad (and painful) news for you to have to share. My heart hugs your incredibly heavy heart.

I loved LeperVanAtom, and Vern, too. Such a sweet man.

I got a ticket to acoustic Hot Tuna here in Eugene for June and thought of him. I've been surprised not to see any recent posts and now we know why. This just hurts.

His enthusiasm and love for Fur Peace Ranch, Jorma and the Zone were palpable.

Vern and I must share a Facebook friend; I was led to his obituary in the last couple of weeks, but had no idea it was our Leper, your Vern.

If you feel so inclined, feel free to email me [email protected] for any reason (or no reason). If it would be okay I'd love to send you a card, you could send your mailing info via email.

Love to you and your family.

Condolences to you and your family, Linda.

Very sorry for your loss.

It would be great to have you join in on Zoner conversations when you're feeling like it.

All my sympathies to you and your family. Linda.

It's a part of our lot as humans to have to endure suffering and loss, and it is never easy.

The beautiful part in this is that all of that hurt is a result of having the memories of great shared experiences with those we love and hold dearly.  Take those to your heart, remember the love, and that you will carry those forever.

I've enjoyed Vern's posts as Leper Van Atom greatly through the years here.  His reports on the going ons at Fur Peace were always so welcome, as were his insights on the wafting tides of the Zone.  I, among many others, will greatly miss his input and presence.

Love and strength to you and yours.

(((((((((( Linda & Family )))))))))

I consider myself lucky to for all the coverage of Fur Peace Ranch he brought here, and he always came across as such a genuinely nice guy.

((((hugs))))

Peace to you and your Family. Linda

Ahhhh Fuuuuuck

Our most sincere healing vibes your way Linda,,, thanks for sharing him with us.

Good Zoners = Love

Linda, if you have some pics you'd like to share here, I'd be happy to help because posting pics on the zone can be kind of tricky. My email is in my profile; if you'd like to send me some pics, I can post them for you here.

MIke, that is so sweet of you.

Very sorry for your loss.

Condolences, Linda.

A Brother Slips Away

From Linda:

Thank you everyone, you are all so special. Also, thanks for the correction it's Leper van Atom with spaces, Vern would want it right. I sent Mike a post from a local radio station and will send him more, thank you Mike, Vern often had trouble posting here but never gave up. I may need help posting Fur Peace Ranch shows, I'll do my best, it won't be like Vern, he was one of a kind, sorely missed, but he was a good teacher. I am going to 2 Electric Hot Tuna shows, April 9 &10, Dan Tyminski April 30 and Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley on May 14, I can't believe I'm going without Vern, although his spirit is always around me, so he'll be there.

Peace, Love and Long Live the Zone,

Linda (Ice Blue Rose)

Condolences to you Linda, seems like a "cool dude".  Too young.

Never saw the "Not Fade Away" folder, that's a great idea and I should spend some time over there.  We've definitely lost some good Zoners over the years.

My condolences to you Linda, I'm so sorry for your loss!! Vern will be missed around these parts and will be remembered for his passion and love of the music. It was so cool to finally meet you both at the King Crimson shows in Ohio last year... I think one of the first questions I asked him was what does Leper Van Atom mean, LOL. We had many online discussions about various shows that we attended, Grateful Dead and others, and realized we had been to many of the same shows over the years, which for me created a bond of friendship because we had many shared experiences, albeit separately. Kind of like soldiers who had been through the same battles together. He posted alot in the King Crimson/Zappa Band thread and his excitement for those shows was palpable.https://vivalazone.org/other-stuff/king-crimson-and-zappa-band-tour-2020

He was a kind soul and one of a kind.

Fare Thee Well, brother!! We love you more than words can tell!!

may peace be with you.

sorry for your loss.

seemed like a nice man.

More pics from Linda:

Seeing Jorma and Vanessa on Facebook today as they prepared for a show tonight by removing thick snow made me think of Leper Van Atom. He sure loved going there and sharing his experiences with us. We were very lucky that he was a Zoner. Missing him from afar.

What a huge loss.  He was one of the good ones here.

My condolences and I hope that you come back often.

Peace

A year later. Looking at the pictures in this thread is so revealing of a deep love, a dear man, sweet, talented and funny. (And good looking!)

I know you miss him so much, Linda.

We miss him, too, and appreciate who he was and what he shared with us.

Love to you, L.
