Steve Winwood

Forums:

I saw him last night at Humphrey's . The guy just gets better w age. His band is great as well especially Neto who's guitar playing compliments Winwood big time.

Neto lives in Fairfax - up in Marin!

Saw hin 2 weeks ago at Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA.  He was in top form and great jazz/funk combo--Neto is a local cat in Marin

hey SD, get tix for the Mavericks. @ Humphries 10/5

Yes I know Neto is a Marin guy. My cousin in San Rafael turned me onto him years ago. Love his tone and sound.

He's been playing with Winwood for a long time now. I've seen him w Winwood like 4 or 5 times over the last decade +

I forgot who I saw him come out as a special guest with. Did he play at the 2/14/03 The Dead show at The Warfield if it wasn't that it might have been w Govt. Mule or I am imagining it all.

guy's always got a great band- and is spot on

The only thing I didn't care for was a tour he did about 14 years ago with no bass player - need a bass

Saw him open for Steely Dan a couple of years ago. Winwood was great.

I'm a big Steve Winwood fan and was able to be a production assistant during the dance re-mix of Back in the High Life at Unique Studios in NYC.

The folks that did meet him said he was way cool & parties.

I saw hin twice on that 1987 tour & I am going to see Winwwod, Jackson Browne & Peter Wolf at the Laid Back Festival at Jones Beach next weekend. Weather permitting.

Caught him at the Edgefield a few years back.  Until I heard him live, it was easy to forget how many different bands he has been in over the years and the number of classic tunes he has cranked out.

1986 show at Blossom was awesome! Jimmy Cliff opened! First time seeing bothcool

Also saw him open for Steely Dan, Slick. Only complaint was he should have had more time onstage.

Looking forward to see him tonight at the Telluride Blues and Brews festival ... it might (or may not) be simulcasted 7pm MDT on koto.org.

Hope I'm not setting myself up for failed expectations, but I recall seeing him at Telluride Bluegrass Festival a few years ago and was definitely impressed re: the way his show was "in the moment" in the GD way ... at least much more so than a Dave Mason show I had seen the same summer in Flagstaff.   Dave was great, but that show now epitomizes "nastolgic show" for me ... he had a slide show going and told stories between each song while the sea of seated gray hair people were fixated on every word.

Didn't quite catch his name at the show in Telluride, but thought the guitarist was solid.

However, couldn't help but think that if they're going to extend jams anyway, the material allows for it to be taken "sideways" if they want (re: tone / more psychedelic spaces) ... but the guitarist was fairly straightforward in his approach.   Maybe it's more a product of Winwood's approach that I'm unaware of, but I do believe real potential exists ... just not getting tapped into.

Great show overall though ... really liked the Empty Pages.

I also saw him with "the Dan" couple years back. He had a KILLER horn section. His set was close to as good as Steely Dan, if not equal.  Good night of music.

I love his' voice and Traffic is probably in my top 25 bands.
