So sad to be checking my email and finding that Holger Czukay has passed.
I was late to it, but as soon as I heard the first notes from Tago Magoo, I started to fall in love with Can. By the second tune, I became enamored with the zany rhythm. Tune #3 (Oh Yeah) became my favorite-ever tune (at the time). Then #4 brought complete and utter appreciation for the relentless 18-minute groove of Hallelujah - that's when I became a big fan of Mr. Czukay (I have a certain love for the bass )
Holger and Can introduced me to the world of Krautrock (and to a bit of avant guarde, which I hadn't delved into much by that point).
Thank you, Holger. And may you rest in that place where all good bass players go.

JD i did not know you were a
JD i did not know you were a fellow can fan!!!
first picked up tago mago when i was 13 or 14. one of the few bands i was into at that time that i never stopped listening to. no matter what genre of music i decided i was into that year, can always seemed to fit and never left my CD case.
if you have not checked it out yet, i think you will really enjoy "Can Live Music (Live 1971-1977). i did not know can could improvise and jam like that until i picked up that album fairly recently.
first walter becker and now this...last years plague of musicians dying is creeping into my own songbook now...bummer. thanks for the post JD.

Somehow, I'm not surprised in our common interest, Daylight.
I was just about to dedicate my night to Steely Dan, but now I'm listening to Can.
