My second Dead show!

GD Giants Stadium 9:2:78.png

I was there. NRPS, Willie Nelson and the GD.

I remember it being very hot down on the field.

Something happened and they only did one song after drums, Sugar Magnolia then OMSN encore.

That's a real good Scarlet > Fire.

I was there--muggy and hot.  Great seeing Bob and Donna join Willie on Whiskey River.  Fun time, not a real stellar show--I remember bits and pieces like looks like rain being fine, a nice Peggy-o and a decent Lazy Lightning.  Thought the Riders were great that day--I would like to get their set.  Then, the boys headed to Egypt.

My first show....had a great time and nothing was ever the same l again!

"That's a real good Scarlet > Fire."

One of Latvala's favorites.

Rumor has it Jerry was hassled by security during Drums for some drug-related issue and he said  "Fuck that; we're outta here" or words to that effect.

Same here Woz, first of about 80.  Saw three with Keith and Donna.  I stopped counting after Brent.

My first show also, Wasn't Waylon Jennings supposed to play too? He backed out for some reason. But yeah, I've never been the same since.

My first as well.

was there with about 10 friends, some who never saw the dead. fun day

I wasnt at the show but from what I read somewhere (probably here on the Zone), was there were no stage lights setup since this was a "day" show, and the GD set was cut short because it was getting dark?

Interesting how they had the drummers shifted over to the right hand side of the stage and not centered behind the front line.

Strong shoe. Post Rhythm Devils was truncated, but everything else was all there then some.

My 5th shoe, I was as disappointed with this one as I was with pretty much all the shoes I saw in 78/early 79.  No Black Peter (this was in the middle of my run of seeing Black Peter at 5 of 7 shows in a row) but there might as well have been (drums -> Sugar Mag/OMSN?  WTF????).  Heard years later it was cut short because of darkness but I swear I remember driving home & it was still daylight.  Of course back then there was no real tailgating.  We were in the upper level off to the side so the sound/sightlines were not the best so that probably had an influence on my opinion.  I remember the sound being pretty weak.  I was at the time living in the Poconos w/my parents & convinced some local yokels (who were into Kiss/Boston/Foghat/etc) to go with me, they didn't like it at all & I told them it was the weakest show I'd seen or heard on bootlegs.  I went w/them to see Steve Miller, Todd Rundgren, Boston, & Manfred Mann's @ the same venue a few weeks earlier, I liked most of that except for Boston.

Was that stage set up a one off?  Looks like Phil ate the bean burrito and no one wanted to be near him.

It might have been because of the massive number of front stage monitors, too much volume for the drummers.

 Haha niño

This was also in late '78 when they were making efforts to place Keith more in the center of things, a last ditch attempt to save a situation that was quickly deteriorating.
