lol, yeah you could build up a tolerance quick. Used to take ballpoint pens apart and cut off almost all the ink straw thingy in the middle (but leave enough so the pen would still work and fill the cavity of the pen with them. Could fit 70-100 per pen. Was getting them for $0.25 a piece.
My sister lost a green ink ballpoint pen filled with them. To this day I shake a green ballpoint pen if I find one.

I didn't take the stuff too often but I do remember going to Memorial Auditorium on the Stanford campus during the wild days and listening to Jerry Ruben give a speech

They first appeared right
They first appeared right about when I first partook - around 1968-69. Usually black or purple at that time.
They went through several other phases - I remember 80s and 90s, I think - but by that time I was on the once a year plan, usually paper.
It's never the same, but, yeah, really doesn't matter what it's sitting in or on - it's all good.
