Fuck Alzheimer's

"Like a rhinestone cowboy . . . Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo."

RIP

Very sad. He's at the core of my earliest musical memories. We're spinning a greatest hits collection and every song is a hit.

Grew up watching his show...

((RIP))

...I  never heard it, but ive heard ppl say that the album he recorded after diagnosed w Alzheimers is really , really good.

Another piece of my childhood dies....

Watched every week just to see John Hartford.  Amazing to think about the quality that TV sometimes had back then.

Great picker and singer, charter member of the Wrecking Crew, just a great life. A true legand.

RIP

Gettin Cards And Letters From People I Don't Even Know .. RIP GC........

^^was gonna mention john hartford...

We loved him from the get go, just due to his name...

"And I need you more than want you,
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line..."

Funny thing is he didn't write Wichita Lineman. I think it was Jimmy Webb. GC made it famous though. RIP.

Hartford of course wrote Gentle on My Mind and Cambell's hit literally financed Hartford's life as an itinerant and then well established song writer, picker and entertainer.

Just one footnote among many -

Yep. Double fuck Alzheimer's. Deal with it daily.

RIP, Mr. Cambell. Love most of your music.

Jambone, there was a very good documentary on CNN about him and his family dealing with the disease. I learned a lot. It's worth a watch.

A very brave stubborn man.

>>Cambell's hit literally financed Hartford's life

one of the truths of the music business: writing a great song, not singing or playing it, gets you paid.

[except for the times that owning the rights to that song, that you've screwed out of the writer, gets you paid]

RIP Glen, one of the significant voices of his time.

What a life & career he had, recording & touring with the Beach Boys in their prime as well.

We all gotta' die of something, so celebrate the life, because it seems like he had a full one.

Thanks Jaz, ill look for it...and i hope youre researching both music and animal therapy...my friends Mom has done real well w both...just sitting at a piano, tinkering w an instrament she never mastered, and hadnt played in over 30 years, has really helped her. That , and walking w horses once a week on her sons farm..

Family swears she s like her old self , sometimes only for moments, somstimes for much longer, during both of these "therapies".

RIP Glen

I'll second the suggestion to watch the documentary.  Well done and very moving.

" I'll Be Me "is a compelling movie - i screened it a few years ago in Nashville with a little concert preceding it and it was a huge hit - i had to sit and watch it all the way thru in rehearsals so the producers could be certain that the quality of the screening was 100% - ive basically seen it 3 times and it gets you every time. Anyone with aging parents should watch it.

His family was a super nice bunch of people, met his current wife ( at the time ) and a bunch of his kids that are in the band in the movie...his daughters band played ' easy on my mind ' and ' pheonix ' and there was not a dry eye in the house...
