California recreational weed advise

There aren't any recreational shops open yet.  You could spend $35-80 to get a medical card if they let out of state residents get them.  Then you could go to a dispensary. 

Rec sales don't start until after the first of the year. Right now the only retail options are Medical Dispensaries. I've heard you can get some kind of "visitor" 215: that's probably your best bet. Have a great trip: hope you get to smoke tough the whole time you're here.

Can't do that in OR - they only let card-holders into the shop (med); dunno 'bout CA. Your best bet would be to hook up with a Zoner in the area and have them do your purchasing while you wait in the car.

The first step is admitting you have a problem

check the local free mag 'the Reader'. plenty of adds in the back (actually thru the whole thing), there should be adds re: out of state cards.

i almost went this route when we were out there last year, but i grew up there so friends & family made it unnecessary, so i'm not sure if the process is easy-peasy or complicated.

Go to a Cubensis or gig by a band called the The Maykers and you should be able to score killer buds for less $ than any dispensary.

AS soon as you land use your mobile device to sign up for a Ca med card here : https://medical.hellomd.com - then you have to get the email and print the PDF of the temp med card. it costs $59.00. At that point you can get a delivery service to come to your hotel or you can try and go to a dispensary that will accept the temp Medical Recommendation - i'd suggest using your passport as ID when getting the card and, of course, getting the weed. You MUST be physically in CA so they can see that your IP is pinging a CA location. 

The Medical card (HelloMd) is tied into the state you reside. Florida "just" approved low grade cannabis and extracts for folks in debilitating situations.

(HelloMd hasn't even set up a enrollment page for Florida yet).

All this couple wants to do is visit a store. Someone with a card or connection should be able to help them out. (Tim is way cool, trust me)

And here I thought that marijuana, literally, fell from the sky in CA. The idea that there is paperwork and you have use currency to purchase it is totally harshing my mellow.

Im a PA resident and the Hello MD card i have is tied to CA thru my passport and location when i first got it then renewed it ( i had to be in the state to initially get it and then i have to renew when i am there as close to the renewal date as possible as its much harder to use the simple printed PDF ) - i travel to CA two to three times a year minimum for business and make use of my CA med card when there, i also used that med card in Nevada when they reciprocated Med Cards w/ CA...

As for the dispensary experience, each shop is different; some will have the flower in mason jars to look at and smell and perhaps even lightly touch, and they weigh the flower out in front of you and bag it -  others will have a few buds of each strain under glass that you can look at like in a museum gallery and then you get sealed bag that is pre weighed with the quantity you request. Another thing to consider is that many a dispensary has its 'proprietary' grower or growers and feature certain strains over others..not every shop has every strain available in the area in its inventory. Think shoe shoping, not every shoe store has every brand ever made....use the google before you decide what shop to hit...

a non state resident can get a cannabis rec in person from a pot doctor. do some googling and find one that is on your route and reasonable priced. you should be paying less than $60.

many dispensaries, however, will not take out of state ID's. So you can find one that does, or try and use your passport as an ID, if they give you flack tell them you lost your CA ID.

as for recommendations - prerolls and vape pens are the ultimate custie pot items. pre rolls are usually of poor quality, and even when its made with good weed, storing the weed broken up like that reduces the aromatic qualities. you might also see some tuna cans with cool labels and weed in them. avoid these as well, they are often of poor quality.

strains to look out for - lemon tree, forbidden fruit, girl scout cookies, dosidos, gelato, OG, purple punch

companies to look for - alien labs, blkleaf, critical710, royal key organics, synergy cannabis, sherbinski, wonderbrett, terp hogz, the village, jungle boys

i dont know any shops in san diego, but Cookies OC in Santa Ana will have the absolute best cannabis available in CA. it is run by the group that bred girl scout cookies, they have clubs all over the state that have the absolute best stuff around. but it is expensive.

only purchase purple punch if you don't want to get high....:)

In OR the dispensary weed is usually over-ripe, over-dried, over-trimmed, over-priced, and under-powered. We and the other folks we know who grow routinely surpass store-bought nugs by at least 50% THC conc.

daylight, lookout for spirit extracts. i know they are based out of northern Ca, but i believe they've started making drops in southern Ca as of last month.....they seem like an honest operation, never tried myself tho. supposed to be very high quality.

Here in the SE we can get a variety of dispensary flavors on demand. Price is comparable to CO as well. In fact, it all comes from CO.

I hit a few shops last Friday while there for Red Rocks/Boulder Theater shows. I picked up some oil, a few grams of shatter, some pure rosin, some spray bottles and a few edibles. Shatter ranged from $25 to $50. The oil was $60. My favorite item (I wish I had bought several) was a throwaway pen that contained 0.25 g of oil. I carried it on the plane in my carry on.

I sent it all home via UPS in a bag of dirty clothes. It arrived yesterday as expected.

Rick, do you feel UPS is safer than USPS?

If the only place you are hooking up is nevada you might grab a tuna can for that back up stuff for later in the trip.  Like canned food, it keeps in these hit dry climes.  Also, vape pens are great for discretion but nothing beats the fruits of the earth. 

I prefer usps. The way I sent it, wrapped up in dirty clothes, worked well. The primary reason I used UPS was because it was Saturday morning, I needed to get up to Boulder, and the UPS store was the closest shipping place to where I was at the time. Plus, they took the laundry bags and packed them for me.

Spray bottles rock. Two squirts and you're getting around 10-12 mg. A few years ago I had a total hip replacement. My pain was controlled by one ultram and two squirts in the morning. I needed nothing else until just before bed. The stuff works!

If you are going to custie up, I've heard invisidabs are a nice stealth product, see if they have it in NV. I guess it's an inhaler. I'd grab some vape pens for stealthy thc consumption as well. When in Rome and all. And loitering outside of a CA dispensary is probably not a good idea so the NV idea seems the way to go if you don't want to try and get a doctors rec.

I worked for almost half a year based in Pahrump in 2007, back when Heidi Fleiss was around that area trying to start a male brothel. She owned a laundry place called Dirty Laundry in one of the strip malls. She ended up flipping her vehicle in a pill haze, then (I believe) left town. Can't believe the town now has a super slick looking rec shop. Might as well check out some brothels if your wife is down with the sightseeing in that area. Lamar Odom OD'ed in Crystal about 20 minutes to the north. Devils Hole is not too far either and the Amorgosa Opera House is a pretty cool snapshot of the good old days of that area between Pahrump and Death Valley. Rhyolite is also a pretty cool old mining boom town which hosted a heavyweight fight back in the teens before the town was wiped away by a flood. Several old buildings are still standing.
