Zoners Welcome...

Forums:

OK, so next Saturday will be the 15th Annual Summer Wing that I have helped to throw down.("Wing" was my high school slang for a party) It may be the last one I do, but nevertheless, I like so many folks I've met here on The Zone, I would like to extend a Zoner invitation to any NY/NJ /PA people who would like to attend. If ya want an idea about what you'd be getting into, it's family friendly with kids games, BBQ, brew & soft drinks, etc...Last year we had over 400 people, 5 bands & 11 kegs. Should be about like that on 6/17/17. Hit me up with an email if you wanna come [email protected] , or just show up and ask for Bob O at Nomahegan Park in Cranford,, NJ. (ex 137 GSP) from Noon until Dusk...

 This looks cool

Sounds Awesome !!

I see it's a County Park, therefore Dawg-Friendly smiley

Also there is a pond with Geese.  My hound loves chasing Geese !!

And right off Springfield  Ave.  That seals the deal, as I am a Simpsons character & know everyone in Springfield.

...

So I'm really really thinking of heading there to Nomahegan Park.

For GPS purposes, which entrance/parking lot is the best ?

It does not seem like a Huge Park like Central in NYC, but I don't want to get lost.

The Park only has one lot, but it will fill up quickly. Suggest getting there before 2:00 pm or nearby side street parking. I would not recommend parking in Union County College's gigundous lot right across the street as they may ticket and/or tow. Look forward to seeing you, Disco man!

OK

I looked at the satellite map/image.

Tiny lot, lake, baseball field & big Trees.  I think I'll bring a little inflatable raft so Hüsky can swim around & tow me.  He's a working Dawg and likes productivity.

So what/which bands will play?  Do you have Thin Lizzy ??

Thin Lizzy had to cancel because at least one of them are dead. But we have 5 other good bands...

Thanks for the invite, Easy Wind.

Wish I could join you, but I'm stuck on the West Coast.

Have a great time!  You too, DStu!

Have big fun!  We'll be @ Mets/Nats.

DJ....... Wishing you a great event and may the weather and sunshine gods be on your side.

That looks like fun. Might cruise over, if I can get it together in time.

Which would require me to snap up the pace somewhat, but hey anything's possible.

DJ Easy Wind, the boss with the hot sauce.

Always bringing the goods yes

Went up North to Nomahegan Park Between Noon & Dusk Saturday afternoon for the Cranstock.

About a 50-something mile drive for me & Hüsky along the Fantabulous Jerseyland Turnpike & Garden State Parkway.

Two of my least favorite roadways in Jerseyland and the entire Continental United States.  Sooo many total asshole drivers 24/7.

But we made good time, and traffic/weather was not bad.  Not a drop of rain,  temperatures were comfortable,  and the new  '97 Outback did just fine.

Let me just say, the Cranstock Crewe know how to put on a Stealth Party.

Liek, Sooooper Suuuuper Stealth.  I was absolutely surprisedumbfounded by the extreme levels of Subtlety laugh broken heart blushkiss.......

More reviews later.  I'm still just trying to sort it all out  ⇔cool

So this "Nomahegan Park" is part of the Union County Park System.

There are a few others nearby, Like "Lenape Park".  I guess they like to name them after the Ghosts of former Indian tribes who(m) were shipped out to Western lands to die off in barren conditions.  The Lenape tribe were Big in South Jerseyland back when.

This one has a 1.5 acre Lake which is fed by a tributary of the Rahway River.  It's a man-made Lake comprised of two Kidney-Bean shaped pools connected with a narrow joint.  Check the Googol - Earth satellite image.  They stock it with Trout and other Fish.  Also they shock it with a bit of insecticide to keep the Skeeters down. A few years ago they got tax $$ or a bond-issue to dredge out some sediment and duck-poop and clean the thing up.  Something like 2 million bucks !!

The Olmstead Bros. designed this one and other Union County parks.  The famous name seems to be Frederick Law Olmstead; associated with NYC Central Park.  They were the Cadillac model of Landscape Design in the day.

If you wander out of the mowed, tended part of the Park through the woods a bit, through adjacent residential areas (nice pads) you'll see the actual Rahway River flowing around.  It's no Mighty Columbia, but there it is.  And these various Union County parks are part of a trans - Coastal Greenway system from Maine to Florida.

Not the Appalachian Trail, but some other well-meaning preservation system which no one knows about.  I like it.  Better my ill-spent tax $$ go there than some other Krap.  It's not all connected yet.  Maybe some day kiss heart yes

So anyway,

I saw many Kids & Grownups doing a bit of Fishing in the Lake.  Most used light tackle, bobbers & Minnows to catch Bass, Trout and Perch.

One fellow caught a Catfish.  He had four rods in the water, the legal limit.  Nice-looking Catfish, maybe 10-11 inches in length.  Some Kids landed a Bass.

As I mentioned, the Fishery dept. stocks Trout there.  I would not be too surprised if the Catfish feast upon the Trout babies which are thrown in.

I really won't suggest visiting  that place as a "Destination Fishing Spot"  but if you live nearby,  well go check it out angel

Oh,

The  Non-existent Cranstock may mean something to those folks who (m) have participated  over the years.

For me & Hüsky,  it is simply another wasted day which could have been a Trip to Dawg Park.

Hüsky plays with his long-term Pals there, and meets new Pups who(m) can be welcomed and integrated into the Pack.

So it is a framework within which Dawg-relationships can be established.

Dogs about his Size, physical capacity and strength are his regular canine companions.

They show up and don't fuck up.

Dude put his email in literally the first post. Quit whining. Jesus.

Disco Stu, your skill at articulation of hitherto unknown facts and factoids about Nomahegan Park is impressive, and you are correct that Nomahegan was a Native American term (Lenape?) that was used by other Tribes to deride the local Tribe as "She Wolves" (Bitches?) because they were non-warring Tribes, which was looked down on by some more violent elements of the Native Ameican Tribes, as I understand it. I didn't know half of the tuff you mentioned about the Lake system, although I grew up fishing it myself.

I'm a bit perplexed that you would go to so much trouble to drive so far and not have the presence of mind to use either my email (which I was checking all day) NOR my phone number which you have, and is clearly stated in our email exchanges. Then you go to the trouble to rag me out in a public forum. Go figure.

"The  Non-existent Cranstock" was actually 400 people who rocked out pretty hard to 5 bands at The Elks Lodge about 2 miles away, a moved forced upon us by pissing rain conditions that decided to cascade on our Park only AFTER we had set up 4 kegs, a full kitchen and greeting booth in the park. Should we have put up a sign stating we had moved? Probably. However, 99.9% of the people invited, including you, had my cell # and my email and Facebook contact info. Sorry we didn't put a sign up, but we were busy relocating expensive and heavy sound equipment in the pissing rain. Not to mention moving the 4 kegs and other gear.

You missed a great time with 5 bands that went on until 11:00 pm, although we worked our asses off all day long. I did spend considerable time updating our email list and any inquiries that came in that way or by phone or text.

But thanks for  blaming me.

and don't write about dogs for a weekcrying

penance or some such shit

strong work DJ - glad it was awesomeyes

I guess that's true; it's Stu's fault for driving all the way there and not calling you or emailing you prior, to reconfirm the party you promoted and invited all the "Zoners" to.

Was this "will-call"?

This took a sad and ugly turn

Glad it was great for you anyway, DJEZ

Does OP ever post anything beside promoting his events or shows?

Aww, poor stu

gimme a fuckin break

How did DS make it this far in life?

I still feel leaving a small note would be the right thing to do. Not everyone is hooked into Facebook or are on their phones 24/7. Taking 2 minutes or having someone else do it would not be that much of a problem. I have worked many events like this, the promoter always would leave a note on the gate or venue if said party was to move to a new location.

Who knew that one has to call and confirm whether a festival is going on? The invite does say, "...or just show up..."

Well, he coulda called when he got there and noticed he was the only one.

Sounds like it was/is more a party than a festival, and most folks were able to deal with the changes

too bad the dude was busy transporting kegs and food for 400 instead of calling everyone

I'd prolly just right this one off as....

"I went to this party one time at this park in Jersey (insert which exit, always gets a laugh) and low and behold the only ones who showed was me and my dog"

This story is fire!

After about the 11teenth time you tell it, you will be the party...

*write

<<<Sounds like it was/is more a party than a festival, and most folks were able to deal with the changes

Thank you, fish. That basically sums it up.

Mea Culpa. If everything wasn't soaking wet in the pissing rain, I should have put up a sign stating the new location. Out of 400 people in attendance, there was only a handful who were not aware of our well-advertised backup plan. While DS was not among those in the know, he is the only one who didn't call or text me to find out what gives. So I guess a public flogging of me was in order. I'm the only person I know who can stir up a controversy by inviting people I've never met in person to a private party...

Since it was a private party, i can imagine why a sign wasnt posted...although, you state you would have etc...

As a small time music promoter of years ago...the only thing i think you missed doing was updating this site here....the rule we always kept was , if you start to promote said gig somewhere, you HAVE to stay on top of it etc...since you started a thread here, inviting all zoners, my immediate thought was (especially if you had time to update facebook etc etc etc) that all you had to do was update the party move here...very simple in my mind...

Again, as i mentioned in a differant thread...thanks for all you do, all shows and events you promote here are appreciated, and i thought DS handled it well...reads to me as he is laughing at himself, not blaming you...but, thats just one persons take etc...

>>You HAVE to...

oh bullshit

^ as it states fish...those were OUR rules for promoting any event.

I really do feel sorry for that damn husky...that poor dog would probably commit doggy suicide if it had the ability.

>> as it states fish...those were OUR rules for promoting any event.

What the actual fuck are you blathering about Lol

Does DS need an adult to show him how to operate a telephone?

Some people don't have cell phones, let alone Smart Phones. Go figure...

It's not rocket science.  Post an event on the zone -- if the event is moved or canceled you post something in that thread.

For the record DJ, disco stu's post seem tongue and cheek to me. The guy doesn't get all that bothered about anyone or anything.

It is funny though to see zoner's getting all frothy and condescending.

Some people have cell phones, but aren't smart

Hounder, what's your boy dogman up to?

>>>>>>> as it states fish...those were OUR rules for promoting any event.

Jambone, do you understand that "any event" would also cover events you and your supposed friends aren't throwing?

Maybe capitalize ANY too and reread what you wrote.

Thanks for stepping in as the semi literate one in the absence of Tulsa.

My boy? That's funny.

In case you weren't paying attention, Dogman and I share a mutual dislike for one another.

I also thought Stu's post was tongue-in-cheek. He and the pooch took a field trip.

Okay gents, get back to your petty squabbling about syntax.

Timmy, doesn't the "any" inherently apply to any of those promoted by his peeps? How could he have rules for another promoter? It's implied. and I got it.

>>>>Timmy, doesn't the "any" inherently apply to any of those promoted by his peeps?

No.

I actually agree with you jambone. While I was hauling kegs in the rain, I felt like Bill Buckner watching the ball roll under his legs on an easy fielding play. I knew I was fucking up, but I had no time to correct it. My bad. I still think a simple phone call from DS (which would not have been our first conversation) would have prevented any agida for all concerned.

So, you really need a qualifier, something like, ..."that we put on"?

"Those were our rules for promoting any event that we put on."

I'm going to disagree with you on this, Timmy. As the "our" refers to a casual group, and not a governmental body, their rules can only apply to them. Well, they could try to enforce them with other groups, but they'd then need guns and knives and shit.

That's funny dj. a "Slow Rainbow Train Wreck", should be a new John Prine song.

>>>>>>I'm going to disagree with you on this, Timmy.

Okay

Thanks for your insight, TH

If I was admin I'd give jambone a 30 day timeout and Brian k a warning.

Who said anything about a cell phone, let alone a smart phone? I asked if he needed an adult to show him how to use a telephone.

I'm confused, Willow. Are you asking about him posting here first rather than calling, or suggesting that he should have called before he left?

Fwiw stu has posted his cell digits here (or maybe at the old place) before. And he's able to post here. He's not that much a luddite as he purports

just an old fashioned attention whore

Disco seems like the type that makes lemonaid when life gives him lemons, and I won't say anything about his rube persona no matter how sockesque it may be

I'm concerned DS never learned how to use a telephone.

The husky is a trained telephone service dog. It's fine.

i just can't read more than 1 sentence of a stu post. nothing against him, i try.

see, DJ, your mistake was to go bill buckner, and not bucky dent about itcheeky
