I have been many times to the Chapel. I have also performed a bunch of times.
There are a few things that make it better than Slim's.
There are no visible obstructions..... Slim's has two poles blocking stage views.
The sight lines are great and there's a cool upstairs balcony that's not tucked in the back like an after thought.
They don't mix every band with lead ears at the Chapel. To my ears, the sound engineers at Slim's seem to mix bluegrass bands like they are hard rock acts and sometimes rock acts get mixed like bluegrass bands - go figure?
It's also in a much cooler - but tougher to park neighborhood of SF.
Yes, several times. First to see Hot Tuna about 18 months back and then a few other times. Nice sound and vibe, much different than slims--slims is a boxy type room, no real ambiance, the Chapel has a good vibe and it is intimate
