A Non-Hüsky Thread -- Upcoming Shows ??

Forums:

Just a thought for Admins and Boardites...

What about a sub-forum between 'Music Talk Only'  and 'Show Reviews'  for upcoming shows that we might not otherwise be aware of ?

Could be regionally differentiated like East, Midwest, West.

Might have a sub-category or two liek,  "Free Shows" or "Symphony Orchestra".

The posts could be deleted en masse when they get a week or two Stale.

I bring this up as I often space on local shows which I would have attended if I knew in advance.

Geez.  Don't go cold turkey, man.

Well,

I suppose one won't hurt...

Perfect. I'll start off.

I just discovered a neat singer/clever songwriter/guitar player names James Maddock. H'e very good. Played with Bruce and Ian Hunter before.

He's playing some shows (NJ/PA/NY)and I grabbed tickets for his Bayshore, NY show - 9/23

PS- Rub the Husky's belly

Thanks for the James Maddock tip, BlueLight.

Asbury for 25 bucks sounds like a strong possibility.

You got it man. Cool thread.

I will second the recommendation of James Maddock. James is a solid performer both solo and with his band. I would caution Disco Stu about catching his show at McCloones in Asbury Park. McCloones is on the former site of the Howard Johnsons in Asbury. While it has good music frequently, it is primarily a dinner spot and to sit in the best seats, one needs to make a reservation and throw down for dinner as well. Food is solid but a bit spendy. Those not eating dinner get put wherever management wants and often that means standing room at the far back of the room.

Better deal in NJ would be the November show in South Orange. That one is a couple bucks more and has Willie Nile headlining that show. Willie is one of the best performers to ever grace a stage and him and James are best buds so they will share the stage quite a bit. I often tell others that Willie is one of those acts that you need to see before you die.

Skif's post  regarding the 'Dinner Theatre' aspect reminds me of old whatsitsname in Sayreville NJ.

Saw the Hot Tuna there ages ago and ponied up for a dining table up front.  Great seats, but the Cuisine was 'Retro retirement banquet' style.

Still even for that era, not a bad deal.  'Club Bêne', 'Club Bennie', something like that.

The food is definitely a few steps above Club Bene, DS. If you go the appitizer, drinks, entree route,  figure it will set you back  approx. $70 a head based on how much you drink.. As I said, the place is more a dinner club than a music club.

The fabulous Club Bene'. Home of the shoe leather veal parmigiana. Strange place. Twisted Sister on Friday, Jerry Vale on Saturday. Grew up 5 minutes away. Miss that dump.

Had to have been 1986--1987 when I saw the Hot Tuna there (club Bennie).

So I was like, a toddler.

I recall being a WiseAss and smuggling in Heineken Dark 12 oz. bottles in athletic socks.  My beverage savings offset the expenditure upon the lavish dining experience.  Soon after we consumed the Heineken Dark Beers, the waitresses got many orders for those, which were not in stock.  Of course we had taken precautions to have the empties passed along to far lengths of our table and others.

There was no chain of evidence implicating us.

Great idea Disco Stu. Really.

Thanks Tony.

Lots to choose from Slacker.

Van at the Fox.

PS- My dog has a stomach virus.

Choose one and let us know.

i'm seeing the maverick's at humphries w/o seats

I prefer the vibe of no seats GA shows.

Seated shows are so uptight.

We're going to Pete Rose day in Philly, and the eclipse in NC. (:

no music on the immediate horizon, tho ):

Altho; ya never know!! ~~~(:

Slacker seems to have the Bayarean region all sewed up.

If the Admin Gods/Goddesses/Godzillas make a Folder, those venue-specific schedules might / should go in their own  'Sticky' subfolder or whatever it's called... In that region.

And  then there would be the temporary stuff like "FREE ADAM & THE ANTS Tuesday 7/14 at Le Club Curmugeon,  147 Bleeker Street".

Obviously such a folder would be solely for "Heads-Up" toward upcoming musical shows of whatever genre, with reviews or opinions going somewhere else.

Except maybe venue-specific dialogue liek,  "Beware the place only has 40 seats" or "This theatre has Huuuge Rats !!"
