Yes,
The Barn-Resident SheepDog passed away yesterday. Ripe old age, about thirteen.
My mourning Coffee is a toast to that hard-working Canine.
He lived in one of the stalls in the horse barn and watched over the flock o' Sheep.
I tried introducing SD to Hüsky, thinking they could play together, but alas, SD's job was to keep Wolf-like creatures away from the pasture.
Tuesday morning I was trying to catch up on overdue Sleep, and SD was barking continually from about 6 AM until 9 AM.
Figured there was a Werewolf in the pasture, closed the window and went back to sleep.
Turns out he'd fallen and could not get up... So he got the injection for that Big Pasture In The Sky.
He had a Good Life doing what he was bred for, ate quality kibble, and had a roof over his head.
Here's to another Working Dawg gone on.

That Sheep - Dawg was not mine, nor could I ever approach him as a pet dawg. He just hung out with the Sheep and barked at stuff. I think he did a good job; there were no Coyote kills during his tenure. He was fed "Blue Wilderness" grain-free kibble and actually looked like another wooly sheep, shaggy and round.
The contrast between that animal and my spoiled Hüsky (he goes sledding, Bike-Joring, Dog-Park, swimming, Space-Station, Scuba-Diving, all that fun stuff) brought this old tune to mind...
"I slept last night in a good hotel
I went shopping today for jewels
The wind rushed around in the dirty town
And the children let out from the schools
I was standing on a noisy corner
Waiting for the walking green
Across the street he stood
And he played real good
On his clarinet, for free.
Now me I play for fortune
And those velvet curtain calls
I've got a black limousine
And two gentlemen
Escorting me to the halls
And I play if you have the money
Or if you're a friend to me
But the one man band
By the quick lunch stand
He was playing real good, for free.
Nobody stopped to hear him
Though he played so sweet and high
They knew he had never
Been on their t.v.
So they passed his music by
I meant to go over and ask for a song
Maybe put on a harmony...
I heard his refrain
As the signal changed
He was playing real good, for free..."

Like I said,
Like I said,
We never really 'bonded'. The furry fellow just guarded the Sheep from predators. It will be different not hearing him bark at real or imagined threats to the Flock at random times of day or night.
He was sort of like a cannon without cannonballs. The times Hüsky escaped and nibbled upon a Sheep tail, Sheep-Dawg just barked and could not figure out how to intervene. It would have been great if SD had ran up and bit Hüsky on the butt, just to teach H.I.M. a lesson.
But yeah, the Siberian is still hangin' tough. That one is my baby Dawg who sleeps at the foot of my bed, or in his own bed, his choice.
I suppose that a Turkey Breast is called for, as a Funeral Repast.

So the other day, my sister
So the other day, my sister who(m) runs the Sheep aspect of the farm called, and offered up the leftover Kibble & a few Alpo cans.
I declined, as it was Agway generic Kibble, and Alpo has 'meat by-products' plus other questionable ingredients.
Could have sworn I saw a sack of 'Blue Wilderness' kibble in the Sheepdog stash some weeks baaack.
In fact, I saw it.
WTF sis is offering up sub-par stuff when she knows I only feed H.I.M. the El Primo.
Talk about yer Cat-Hair nugs
Hüsky eats the Grain-Free kibble with accents of Cow, Hog, Fish & Fowl. No lowly gmo corn or soy. That stuff just produces stank Dawg-Farts and worse.
