Prog Rock

This one is both right and wrong:

"This is a random question brought on by the fact I was listening to all ten minutes of “Achilles’ Last Stand” today: Does Led Zeppelin count as a prog-rock band?
I don’t think so. I think the record collections of people who have [Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s] Brain Salad Surgery also have Led Zeppelin IV nestled nearby, but without getting into it, Led Zeppelin weren’t super inventive. They were not a band that was trying to push boundaries that much. They were just a very loud rock band."

I am a big, old school fan of Yes, Gabriel era Genesis, Tull, Floyd, Gong, and other prog bands - but am just as much of a fan of LZ.

LZ was definitely not just a loud band.  They for sure were not Prog - BUT IMHO they were very inventive in terms of arrangements, recording technologies and ideas....

^agreed

This is where I plug my buddies' band ONCE AND FUTURE BAND they are a next level 70s style prog rock band from Oakland who are their own thing, sad they don't tour a whole lot since one the guys has kids but they are doing some shows with Tool (who they do not sound like at all).
