I would not be at all surprised if photographer/blues harpist Danny Clinch will be there on May 26th as well. Seems like he plays with PHJB every time they are in the tri-state area.

super stoked now

This should be excellent.  I just saw them twice in New Orleans, first on the Gentilly Stage at Jazzfest, and at an instore set at The Louisiana Music Factory on the Monday after the Fest ended.  They brought their A-game both times.  Their new album is an excellent reboot of their trad jazz sound with some more modern New Orleans Marching Band and Afro-Cuban influences.  It's among their best ever work.  There is an abundance of talent in this band.

^ i guess I need to check out this new album and hear what they're up to. Someone I talked to who heard them at jazzfest wasn't thrilled with the new sound, especially the switch from tuba to string bass.

That's the leader of the group, Ben Jaffe on upright bass.  He rips it up.  The pianist, and all the horn players are phenomenal.

I wonder if Phil will play Franklin's Tower?

Ticket sales must really suck for this run.

who is excited for JMFJ and Friends sat matinee show......wink

Still not sold

Going to be a mess

Just my prediction

Either way It will be epic to some!

(((Reality)))

Wasn't going to go.

Now going.

Just because.

Phil Lesh is the man.

And he needs me this weekend.

True story.

^heart NFA

Sounds good to me.

Are they warming up or sitting in with Phil?

Or both?

.. going to be a mess^^^^

i believe the reason why the march cap show's lineup was not announced when ticket went on sale was b/c phil originally intended to have tfb make their debut at the cap.

now we see phil making a last ditch effort to bolster sad cap ticket sales for tfb (& guests) debut by including the preservation jazz band less than a week b/f the show.

so i ask, how are all those players going to play at the same time, or even fit on the stage.  ha.

IMO phil should ditch his original lineup for this wknd & instead sit in with the preservation jazz band for their show.

(btw i will NEVER see mf-rj play ever again, in any lineup).

i am off the bus for the time being & somewhat annoyed with phil

I like the idea of Phil sitting in with them.

But until I'm an old famous rock star my opinion ( unfortunately ) doesn't means shit. It's too bad really.

yeah i know what you mean about opinions, but i just can't accept these current lineups after being blown away by the Q.  .

Da whine continues.....and the shows are pretty close to sold out and will b by show time ... he added the preservation hall jazz band to sell more tickets...hilarious.....might as well write your shitty reviews now and save time...and it doesn't have to be epic to have a good time..the zone is becoming more and more of the old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn....to quote 45...sad

Hey this is my opinion.  not asking for anyone to agree with me.

^^^^^

So u r annoyed w a 77 year old man who has given countless great times before and after Jer checked out because u don't like any lineups since the Q at forest hills even though the Q did shows at the Cap after that.....got it.. I respect your choice but completely disagree w it..Coney Island last September were good shows that peeps panned leading up to them..maybe someday the zone will learn but probably not..oh well...

come on man, ross james and alex koford are integral parts

of the plf lineups. phil jumped ship long ago. these are just sloppy lineups, thrown together with what seems like no real thought or care.

the odd part is phil can still play, but the friends he surrounds himself with any longer are pretty weak.

Karl Denson is weak??? Somebody should tell The Rolling Stones

^eh, whatever. have fun dude. i hope phil delivers.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Karl Denson, Robert Randolph, Neal Casal, Phil Lesh

Sloppy

no thought

a mess

last ditch effort

Pretty sure none of the above would be associated with such.

Whatcha all doing instead?

Jelly roll

You seem to care way to much about others opinions. Don't take it so personal.

If you dig it great!

You must live close to the Cap or within reason otherwise you might have a different opinion.

It would cost my wife and I almost $1500+ to make it to these shows with travel, food, rooms, tickets, party favors etc. Hence, the disappointment in these "crappy, b-league talent" lineups.

It's not just about Phil being 77 so let him throw whatever shit he wants on stage and be all excepting because of his age.

Just my opinion of course. And for those who have the scratch to spend attending shows with these lineups God bless them.

^^^epic show.  i had fun.

for me it has to be epic or it just ain't worth it.

just making fun of all the whine ...nothing personal at all..and the preservation jazz hall band is already in town for the Greenwich party ...might as well spend a night w Phil before...but but tickets...hilarious...

I've heard it through the internet drugband message board grapevines that motherfucker ross james plays a sweet big river.

gotta be a selling point, no?
