The Malone woman is the favorite in this category. She's been getting most of the press in the weekly rag that sponsors these awards.
Haven't seen her yet, but I'll get around to it.
Another funny thing is they put Mr. December in this category and they play kick ass Rock, old school R & B and Funk.
Dana Moret has got a huge voice that reminds me of a combo of Janis and Etta. Plus, her hubby, Jim Papastathis is a terrific guitar slinger. Not sure how they got Folk/Bluegrass slot, but it would be a hoot if they won and then had them play at the awards ceremony. There'd be a lot of head scratching.
This is the 25th year for SAMMIES. I've been playing around this old town for 40 years now. Ha! The upside to winning a SAMMIE is the community does about 6 big community shows during the year that pay rather well, but they only hire SAMMIE winners. If I could land a few of these, I could pay some of my musicians better, which would be be more rewarding to me.
