If you actually believe that Trump or Bannon are actively encouraging any of this it says a lot more about you then it does about them.
The current leadership of the Democrat Party is more anti-Semetic than Trump or his administration will ever be. You might want to delve into the history of Keith Ellison (former supporter of Louis Farrakhan who was almost elected DNC chair and was appointed Deputy DNC Chair as soon as Perez was elected) as well as Linda Sarsour (an organizer of the Trump protests of 1/21/17 whose support for Palestinian mass murderers of Jews and open calls for Israel’s destruction have been ongoing for more than a decade) and Rasmea Yousef Odeh (a major organizer of next months Women's Strike who in 1970 participated in bombings in Israel, one of which resulted in the killing of two Israeli students). In 2004, she became a U.S. citizen after concealing her terrorist background, answering “No” to questions in the naturalization questionnaire regarding whether she had “EVER” been arrested, charged, convicted or imprisoned. In 2014, ten years after becoming a U.S. citizen based on false pretenses, she was convicted for unlawful procurement of naturalization. But of course in Obama World that didn't justify her expulsion from this country.
So spare me your fantasies about the anti-Semitism that is supposedly rife in the current administration and clean up your own house.

Wow that argument is so stupid I’m kind of speechless. One of whom is the publisher of the leading anti-Semitic news outlet in the country.

That is because it has happened multiple times, in multiple cities and towns, you dolt.
Thom it is because white nationalists feel emboldened by Trump's win and by the appointment of the mouthpiece for white nationalism, Steve Bannon, to the national security council.
Thom, will you finally comment about Bannon and his ties to white nationalism?
Or are you going to scurry away like a cockroach again?
I do believe that Bannon has never made a statement that could be considered anti-semetic. I know, it sucks to say, but it's true.
Guys like Bannon and Trump are just pro-America, to a fault. It leads to a progression: pro-America > nationalist > racist
Now, Bannon and Trump aren't proven racists, but the racists have latched on to their pro-America spiel and have taken it to the next level. Unless Trump takes a very direct and hard line against them, they will continue to be emboldened. You can't really blame Trump/Bannon for the acts ad thoughts of others, but they can be blamed for not standing up to it.
Bannon's wife has reported that when they were looking at private schools for their child he wanted to know what's with Hanukah books Hanukah books in the library and objected to a school with what he thought were too many Jews cause he doesn't like the way Jews raise their kids. Also, when you openly admit to being the empowering voice for neo-nazi america, maybe you have some responsibility to put the kibosh on those people who you may have empowered when they seem to be coordinating against jewish institutions. Same as threats against mosques, also on the rise but doesn't seem as coordinated. Although, currently, I think Islamophobia "trumps" anti-semitism in the white house at the moment, you can't raise a group of people to be "alt-right" and then just proceed to ignore white power activities. Unless of course you actually want to continue empowering them, which I think Bannon does, as part of his chaos and fear campaign.
Has the administration expressed some concern with the "Get out of our country" ant-immigrant shooting in Kansas City?
President Donald Trump told Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro that bomb threats at Jewish Community Centers may have been from “the reverse” to try to “make others look bad,” Shapiro said today.
When a reporter asked Shapiro if he took this to mean that Trump was implying his supporters were being framed, he responded that he can’t be sure what the president meant but that “he used the word ‘reverse’ I would say two to three times in his comments.”
“I really don’t know what he means,” Shapiro said, “and I don’t know why he said that.”
>>>>our local JCC was threatened as well as about 20 around the country on the same day.
Rise of white power groups over the last several years. Just happens that Bannon was running a white power empowerment website during that time. All they needed was a little encouragement.
Hate groups are now empowered, and they believe that they are also mainstream.
Soon enough they will unknowingly but directly threaten Trump's grandkids, daughter, son in law and his family, who are Orthodox. We will then see what Trump is really made of. Will he even step to the plate for his own family? He won't do it for average citizens.
To be fair, I'm sure the Kushners are pretty unhappy about the threats and such and would like to discourage it. However, I'm sure Grima Wormtongue has made it clear to Trump that he shouldn't be seen as in any way having any responsibility for anything, much less this.
I think a case could be made that the fear comes from a change in political climate emboldening nitwits to act out more. You get that right Thom? Careful man, you are spiraling.
The more cowards and xenophobic broken souls that express their hatred in the form of illegal acts, the better stocked the private prison complex will become.
It's all part of the big plan. It looks bad when you build prisons without a need for them.
Hey Slack - It's grade school vandalism until it's your family's tombstones that have been knocked over. Right? How would YOU like to get the call that this happened to you. You get to explain it to your kids. Sounds like fun, don't it.
Grade school vandalism is throwing toilet paper in trees. Don't know the difference, do you?
And yeah, maybe you don't have kids, and your deceased relatives were all cremated and stuff, the message is still the same. And you don't get it.
Thompson’s page also expresses disdain for President Trump and white people generally. “White folk are trash,” he wrote in a tweet about the Oscars. He praised black women for their opposition to Trump “The only person to call Trump a fascist in the #dncdebate is a black woman,” he wrote. “Of course. Black women are the root of left mvmnts.”
So an anti-trump, anti-white, disgraced reporter was behind it? LOL.
I'm sure you guys will still blame Bannon/Trump somehow.
Officials have arrested a Israeli American teenager in connection with a string of bomb threats made to U.S. Jewish Community Centers and schools over the past several months.
...
Some in the U.S. have connected the threats to a perceived rise in hostility toward Jews during the 2016 election. The motivation behind crimes like this can be extremely difficult to prove, however, and Haaretz reports that the suspect arrested on Thursday is being accused of involvement in “hundreds of incidents involving threats to institutions around the world, including Israel, over a period of two or three years.”
Hysterical. Because a few incidents aren't the result of anti Semitism or carried out by the usual suspects we can just laugh off all the other Neo Nazi homegrown terrorist activities and deny that the incidents of hate crimes haven't increased dramatically because Trump aka Breitbart became President and sent a signal that this regime Supports the White Supremacists aka Alt Right Movement. yeah, no actual hate crimes to see here...
I dunno just because he is an Israeli American does not exclude him from being antisemitic. Even though the article states they think he is Jewish, people turn on their faiths all the time. Im not convinced he and his pops are out to set off a race war.(helter skelter?) by making it look like Jews are being attacked everywhere. Im thinking dude is just nutty. I'll be interested to see whats what.Glad he was caught.
<<<<Rise of white power groups over the last several years. Just happens that Bannon was running a white power empowerment website during that time. All they needed was a little encouragement
But haven't there been white power websites since the dawn of the Internet? I'd attribute it more to the rising tide of nationalism and race centrism that seems to be sweeping the globe currently.
Your point about not openly discouraging this trend more from those in power is well taken, though. The Trump junta needs to not only distance themselves from this shit, but actively speak out against it......but I have a feeling they don't want to lose those voters, so they let it simmer. It's all going to blow up in their face though.
SPLC and ACLU have all the facts and stats about the rise in hate crimes.
Nazi groups and white nationalists are targeting Muslims, Blacks, Latinos, Jews and other minorities in greater numbers as The Trump regime continues to embolden said hate groups while crafting discriminatory policies, and hiring people associated with the White Nationalist movement. Trump doesn't know David Duke like he doesn't knows Putin.
From my understanding, that Israeli American kid has a pretty large brain tumor that has kept him pretty much out of life because he is crazy. Let's see how that pans out. If it turns out that he's batshit nuts, and that was the cause of his actions, what the hell are you going to do. Crazy people do crazy things.
>> SPLC and ACLU have all the facts and stats about the rise in hate crimes.
I just went on the SPLC site. They track "hate incidents", not "hate crimes". The "hate incidents" are self reported submissions to the website.
They claim hundreds of incidents since the election, but don't track anything before it.
It's self serving propaganda. It's admitted to not be representative sample since it's self reported and not polled. It's also labelled "anecdotal" and not entirely vetted. "The SPLC made every effort to verify each report, but many included in the count remain anecdotal." The data is not the same value as say polling done by a reputable news agency or data collected by the government.
>>>> they claim hundreds of incidents since the election, but don't track anything before it.
>> Ender, that just isn't true.
Last week, shortly after Donald J. Trump was elected the country’s next president, the Southern Poverty Law Center put up a form on its website encouraging people to share details about potential hate crimes.
SPLC has tracked hate crime "incidents" for years. Used to be called Klanwatch when they started.
Probably because Morris Dees had recently won a case against United Klans of Alabama on behalf of the mother of a young man who was lynched in Mobile in...1981.
In 1994 they expanded into tracking militias and the "patriot" movement, now known as the Teaparty movement. And now we have alt-right racists advising the goddam president.
Any incident, which constitutes a criminal offence, perceived by the victim or any other person, as being motivated by prejudice or hate.
HATE INCIDENT
Any incident, which may or may not constitute a criminal offence, which is perceived by the victim or any other person, as being motivated by prejudice or hate.
A lot of people who are butthurt over the election are forwarding their racist cousins facebook post to the ACLU. Then you guys are misinterpretting that as an actual hate crime and somehow attributing it to Trump.
This is a fake news circle jerk. Come back with real data if you want to debate.
No one has to debate American racism. It is all too easy to see, signage at Trump and Teaparty rallies for example.
The fact that someone has a cousin making racist comments on Facebook, thousands in fact, should give you pause rather than motivating you to come up with weak sauce defending this criminal regime.
Go on over to al.com and read the comments. Reddit, 4chan, et fucking cetera.
>> rather than motivating you to come up with weak sauce defending this criminal regime.
Dude, I'm not defending the regime. If I had to guess, I'd guess that actual hate crimes are up since the election. But there has been no data presented to support that.
>> Go on over to al.com and read the comments. Reddit, 4chan, et fucking cetera.
That's anecdotal and not evidence. You've worked in academia, I'm sure you realize that's not the proper basis of an argument.
News sites and reddit tailor their content based on what you've read in the past and your stated preferences. You are literally not seeing the same news as other people. It's very easy to put yourself in a digital room full of mirrors and yes-men. That's why I prefer printed news.
Certainly Trump's rhetoric and vile brand of nationalism has got the haters all stirred up - probably just as much as having a black guy with a Muslim sounding name elected president - but it will be interesting to see how Bannon's Anti-Semitism meshes with Jared Kushner and the hard line, pro-Israeli wing of the administration.
And here's the FBI page for 2014, which makes the 2015 data more meaningful. It looks like about a 7% increase in hate crime offenses from 2014 to 2015.
>>>If you actually believe that Trump or Bannon are actively encouraging any of this it says a lot more about you then it does about them.
Are you fucking kidding Thom?
Are you this asleep? Trump encouraged this with so much of his rhetoric during the election as well as following it.
How can someone who presents themselves as a reasonably minded person in every non-political thread present themselves as someone like this is political threads?
Is this being loyal to somone? One of your parents--you dad maybe? Was he a big republican?
It's got to be something like that because otherwise, it's too fucked up.
I would always give more weight to a vetted, sourced data point.
However, race incidents, like rape prosecutions often begin with anecdotal accounts of things that happen to people. Oral histories like the ones put out by Studs Terkel are anecdotal but give insight into patterns of thought.
I am sure SPLC can provide some verification as they have been doing this work for many years.
A more sourced account of racial patterns can be found in the three volume King bio by Taylor Branch.
That said, one simply cannot dismiss the sexist and racist noise that is openly available to see. Trump has openly mined that vein and many of his followers are emboldened and act accordingly. Do I even have to mention breitbart?
You sometimes really don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

Thompson’s page also expresses disdain for President Trump and white people generally. “White folk are trash,” he wrote in a tweet about the Oscars. Officials have arrested a Israeli American teenager in connection with a string of bomb threats made to U.S. Jewish Community Centers and schools over the past several months.

Your point about not openly discouraging this trend more from those in power is well taken, though.

SPLC has tracked hate crime
SPLC has tracked hate crime "incidents" for years. Used to be called Klanwatch when they started.
Probably because Morris Dees had recently won a case against United Klans of Alabama on behalf of the mother of a young man who was lynched in Mobile in...1981.
https://www.splcenter.org/seeking-justice/case-docket/donald-v-united-kl...
In 1994 they expanded into tracking militias and the "patriot" movement, now known as the Teaparty movement. And now we have alt-right racists advising the goddam president.

HATE CRIME

HATE INCIDENT
Any incident, which may or may not constitute a criminal offence, which is perceived by the victim or any other person, as being motivated by prejudice or hate.

When you submit a "hate incident" to SPLC, you can cite a tweet or facebook post as evidence.
A lot of people who are butthurt over the election are forwarding their racist cousins facebook post to the ACLU. Then you guys are misinterpretting that as an actual hate crime and somehow attributing it to Trump.

News sites and reddit tailor their content based on what you've read in the past and your stated preferences. You are literally not seeing the same news as other people. It's very easy to put yourself in a digital room full of mirrors and yes-men. That's why I prefer printed news.

I would always give more
I would always give more weight to a vetted, sourced data point.
