I will be interested in checking out the new album that Mayer said he is working on to see if anything changes based on his exposure. I also wouldn't be surprised if got access to a bunch of unused Hunter lyrics that may show up on it. 

Finally, some good news!

Don't believe everything you read. I know someone that was at a Q & A with Irving Azoff and down the road Mayer will do something Dead related. 

I heard Chimentti has some health issues , but that is not confirmed by anyone I know. 

Just saw 2 nights of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings Grateful Dead acoustic tribute.  Mayer could learn a thing or two from his fellow Berklee Music School alumni.

Interesting. I know that Mayer owns the majority share of Dead & Company.
I wonder if that band name will still tour, or just be used exclusively for marketing.

I definitely never appreciated Mayer, nor did I appreciate Dead & Co at all.
But it does belong to him.

For some reason the guy has generated a lot of derision among many older dead heads, because of his Hollywood playboy past? The way he dresses? His soft pop hits/he's not from the proper scene?

I had seen him numerous times before D&C and I was at the top of the cringe list when I heard he was Bob's choice, but he surprised me pretty much right away and impressed me quickly by how deeply he had obviously studied not just Jerry and the songs but the entire approach to GD music.

I saw the band 12/13 times and was never a big fan but I heard some very good music and surprisingly thought that Mayer was the strongest link in the group.

Through all of it I always thought he handled himself and the situation with class, including booting Billy out of the band (which he deserved) and I think he's handling this with class.

Because he has control of the name and because there is a massive continuing fan base for Dead & Company he could fairly easily replace Weir (maybe not well but fairly easily) and continue. I think Mickey would be on board as well, and if Mayer was the douche bag many think he is he would do that. But he's not.

I think he really embraced and loved the improvisational nature of the music and I think at some point he'll put a band together and get back to it. One thing for sure, the hallowed tempos will likely be back to snappy.

Other than seeing the Grateful Dead continue into new generations I really couldn't care less, but while I'm not a fan of his music I have become a fan of the man, based on how he's carried himself overall the past number of years, including how he recently spent huge money to buy and continue the old Charlie Chaplin movie and recording studios in Hollywood that were likely to be razed.

It sounds like that's more a money pit than a money maker for him but he did it for the right reasons, and I think he's doing this correctly as well.

The idea that anyone would want to see a Dead & Co show period is hard for me but to then go and see it without Bobby is just sad. I miss Phil.

The ick is thick with Mayer. That's the beginning, middle, and end of the story for me.

Look at the chemistry with him & Bob. There's nothing there.
They guy exudes pure douchey frat-vibe.
Plus the entire lack of any psychedelic credential.
That perspective created the heart and soul of GD music, and he has absolutely zero.
You can't study your way there & back again.
He definitely enabled Bobby to play a bunch more years in a GD structured framework.
I still think that was the wrong approach for where Bob was at the last few years.
The whole thing came across as weak and sad and inauthentic.
Bobby was a shell of his former self, and the drummers were a spectacular waste of time.
I know some people appreciated Dead & Co, even believed in it, but I saw it as a spectacular waste of time & resources.
They were very consistent, I will give them that. It's just unfortunate that they consistently sucked.

I heard that Dead & Co had improved significantly by 2024 and played faster tempos -- yay or nay?
