Don't know what made me think of this earlier this morning but man back in the day (25+ years ago!?), I would obsessively give and receive so many shows on our predecessor site, the Philzone.  I have so many cd cases of amazing shows sitting in a closet.  Now, everything is available to stream.  Who else remembers and played along?

I do!

I remember some Zoner handing me CDs at a show and saying, "Here, man, take these! I have moved on to hard drives!"

It was fantastic!

I  remember those days and still like to hand out CDs to this day  :-)

We had cassette vines (so many people could have 2nd gen tapes) before that!

I'll go back one step further..... I lived in Vernon NJ and New Paltz NY pre-CD.   Would always carry cassettes of shows.

When I saw a GD sticker on a car, I would leave a tape under a windsheild wiper with a note: "This has been a rando act of KIND-ness. Have a Grateful Day'

100's of tapes over the years.....

I still remember the day I let my tapes go, and which exact dumpster they were relegated to

The CD's I still have a selection of, for various reasons

But otherwise I'm all hard drives now, maaaan

I Was Completely Immersed !  It Was Really FUN yessmileycheeky

tape n trade

BSS and others....."how" do you access/stream/play files from your PC/HD/NAS or whatever to your current environment?? We moved 2 yrs ago and my shit is still a mess.

i miss walstib giving me cd's in person. RIP, i love you buddy.

Turtle, I have an Einskin bt adapter connected via rca pair to one of the input channels on my stereo preamp

It's a simple powered device with one button

I use Winamp to play files from my hard drives on my PC, broadcast it to bluetooth, sync them up, and rock out

 ymmv

hmm thnx man. i need a full system overhaul and may make a separate thread.

I was a willing addict to mad trading. No regrets!

Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end.......Amazing camaraderie and kindness.

>>>Amazing camaraderie and kindness.<<<

Was a great thing.!
Loved it :)

"Now, everything is available to stream."

Until the poles flip when a huge electromagnetic storm arrives and destroys all electronic devices. As depicted in Ken Kesey's 1992 Science Fiction novel Sailor Song. If that happens we will want a stack of old records and a windup turntable, and be glad that we know Grateful Dead songs by heart.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailor_Song_(novel)

Sailor Song is a 1992 novel written by Ken Kesey. The only work of long fiction solely written by Kesey after Sometimes a Great Notion (1964), Sailor Song depicts the lives of the residents of Kuinak, a small town in Alaska, in the then future of the 2020s.

I was constantly on trade board , either trading or offering b&p

And slickrock ... how far do we go back on zone

we were on trade board all those years ago ... crazy ! lol

For some reason , I always loved your handle... lol

Stirring memories and opening voids with this thread.

>>>Maria Reine<<<.  Anybody still in touch?

I feel my most intense period was with P-zoners,  post Jerry obviously.

Further back was a different group of people for me entirely.

I can't remember pre-zone beyond bay area innies that got 1st gen copies of sbd tapes I could pull off of. So many people, pre 82 and back in the mix for me.

(((((B&Ps))))))

The only cool thing I ever did was make that copy of the seven special jams from Odyssey of the Spirit Summer of 2001.

>>>And slickrock ... how far do we go back on zone

Frank, I got on early 2000's. I went to a Ratdog show at The Fillmore in October of 2000. Might've been in town for Hardly Strictly.

I talked to a local friend who did a lot of recording (still on the Zone) and asked about how I might find a recording He suggested doing an "ISO" and the rest is history.

I used to program a show at a volunteer community station and it was cool to turn the audience on to the latest in live recordings.

Wow, Dan-O! He was a monster, too. So many great and generous people.  I have too many CD's and need to dispose of them. Finding the time to go through them is hard.

>>>For some reason , I always loved your handle

The Slickrock Stranger thing was created because I do protest music in Utah, especially about the environment. After seeing Hot Rize and "Red Knuckles" at Telluride in 1991, I realized that's what I might need to do, create a character that makes fun of yourself and showing you don't take yourself too seriously instead of just pointing a shamey finger at the hierarchy and MAYBE they'll listen while laughing. I tell people I play with my brothers Even Stranger and Waaaaay Stranger.

how's that worked out?
