Grass Valley gets all the shows.
I always find it interesting to see the originals. Good gallery lighting can really showcase a piece. I've been surprised before when I see actual size, color, etc. (Mark, maybe you can check it out sometime if you are out that way.)
"..., 60 Years of the Grateful Dead is a retrospective exhibition that opens at the Chambers Project in Grass Valley, California, on 6 December, two days after the 60th anniversary of the band’s founding. It is the most comprehensive display of the original art from the band’s artistic history to date.
...While the show is of museum quality, gathering the works was not a typical curatorial process. Chambers owned some of it, but had to track down other works in unexpected places. The Anthem of the Sun painting was in Walker’s sister’s garage in Sacramento, where it had been stowed for years."

It's not just an art exhibit,
It's not just an art exhibit, there's a one off concert tomorrow night with a lineup interesting enough for me to custie up 60th anniversary style and actually travel for something GD related, which is Something I don't really do any more and may very well never do again.
hell, I struggle to even find the initiative to go see Nelson band these days so I really hope I feel this was worth it.

The elusive E in the house!
The elusive E in the house!
Far out.
Any chance you're going to struggle to make the Residents show in S.F. next month?
Hope you enjoy that nice little GD band that around here a few years ago would have been called TxR dishwashers.
Just a little rock 'n roll, nothing wrong with that.
Overall it continues to amaze me how in 2025 the Grateful Dead is showing up everywhere, more & more in the accepted mainstream of American culture.
Everyone has an opinion on when it has or will "jump the shark"...... maybe when Trump wears a tie-dye at one of his rallies and does his bizzaro dance to Loose Lucy?
Or maybe Good Morning Little School Girl???
That'll do it for me.

hello, Phil people.
hello, Phil people.
i plan on attending one of the January residents shows, lance but haven't decided if I'm doin sf or gonna travel down to San Diego way to visit family and see them at the belly up.
I disagree with your txr dishwasher comment though.
this isn't Alex and/or Ross motherfathering James.
This is Sears, sless & molo. This is some rando Melvin guitarist from the late 90's. This is a keyboardist that, while somehow having been in the scene since damn near day one, has played on next to nothing of consequence, this the lovely and sometimes even talented Elliot peck. This is one of the most prominent Nepo babies of the GD world trying to earn some respect.
Combined, This ain't no txr waitstaff.
let's call this thing what it is: This is GrahamAlice!
And I'd argue that, with maybe the exception of some kinda Q reunion with Gordon, Oteil or schools, this band has the best chance of being the most promising post Phil GD music playing ensemble out there, at least for my money and at least on paper, but the only way to know fo sho is to GTTS.
wish me luck, fam.
I'll let y'all know how it goes, with Furiously Extreme prejudice just like way back in the days of old and magnificently we will flow yadda, yadda, yadda....

Atta' boy E.
Atta' boy E.
I'd counter that those who coined and used the 'dishwasher' term were disparagingly commenting on any/all "Bay Area locals" which certainly includes the worthy group that performs tomorrow, and who very often played at the clubhouse to blanket sneering reviews.
As one who had boots on the ground I always took exception to the dishwasher term, and I now embrace it and use it broadly with pride, since it was misguided & uneducated from the start.
Anyway Furious, it's good to see you posting, you're certainly one of the very good ones. I hope all is well, and keep GOING TO THE SHOW!

yo E, gimme a shout if you come down.
as far as post Phil, E, check the Skeleton Crewe : https://archive.org/details/sc2025-11-09.mtx.selleseth.flac24/sc2025-11-...
while the dishwasher term was not particularly nice, it really shouldn't cause that much duress.I guess people had hoped for a bit higher level of collabs...which did occasionally happen, but shit even a certain Zoner would have been an improved chess piece. PS. go see Freestone Peaches.

In hindsight, I'm just glad
In hindsight, I'm just glad we got as much out of txr as we did.
the Phil & friends legacy was such a gift.
that skeleton crewe lineup looks pretty boss but I find that setlist lacking.
that's gonna b big factor on how enjoyable I find tonight.
Will they stretch out and will this grahamalice ensemble bring out the goods?
the st. Stephen>11's, O1's and dark stars? Or will they just, more or less, fotd my jed and wang dang my doodle all night long?
that's one of the things I miss most about Phil, him and/or Jill could put a damn setlist together.
they knew how to tell a story, surprise and delight and if it sometimes even underwhelmed, u were guaranteed a unique and mindful experience
