The Heart of Town

The night opened up with Stephen Stills sitting in with Graham Lesh and friends. Uncle John's Band, Teach Your Children, Althea and a rousing version of For What It's Worth. Stills left, Krasno joined and on it went with great players coming and going. Set 2 opened with Peter Rowan and Bill Bershi on Midnight Moonlight, Panana Red, Cold Rain and Snow, FOTD and more. JGB etc, you all csn look up the set list. The energy was amazing .....it was one of those "only in San Francisco" events and nights that over the years have become fewer and farther between and it was special - and everyone there knew it.

How much open corpse humping was going on?

(A lesser known but common San Francisco practice)

Sounds like a real good time. Peter Rowan singing Midnight Moonlight and Cold Rain & Snow is always worth the effort, even in a shed. Wish I could have been there.

Way to represent Woz.

Watched the first set and it was good.  Lots of A list players and the jams were cohesive and not phoned in.  But was wondering if Roger got to sing a song because he had Molo and Sears on retainer and they needed his permission to have them play?

Also noticed that they pushed back nights two and three until next week after the Dead & Co. shows.  Thought they were supposed to be an after party thing.

That's just the Nuga replay Ken, shows are tonight and tomorrow ight..

Hey Ken - the ticket site still shows Aug 1 and 2. Where are you seeing the date change? I know a few folks who would be pretty po'd with that since they passed up other events for this.

Andy Frasco got people going :)

waste to have Melvin and Ivan together. Holly represented

Impressed by Maggie Rose

props to Grahame :)

and we're off!

Mike, the shows are tonight and tomorrow. The Nugs replay is next week.

Thanks for the clarification Wiz. Have a blast this weekend.

BTW Sirius playing last night's show now

OMG! What an awesome show!! I really loved seeing Steven Stills again, but all the guests were great (well maybe except the wombat) . This is the way I like it. Keep that Phil and Friends groove alive, well done Grahame and all involved.

would have def hit the Grahame show

Remember a few years back when folks on this board were calling Grahame "the price we have to pay."

Well, Phil was teaching Grahame to carry the torch after he was gone, and Grahame has stepped up big time, along with Phil's many friends.

The music does and will go on. This song ain't ever going to end.

There was a lot of energy Thursday night at Pier 48.  The long weekend was just getting started and everyone was fresh.  Even though we showed up just after Stills' segment, I'm glad I went.  It was right next to McCovey Cove, which was neato and made for a pretty setting.

The other days, the GG Park shows alone were a bit of a slog.   I caught about 90 minutes of the Jerry Day JGB set, but didn't have anything left in the tank for latenight.

Free for nugs subscribers later today

Wow.   A France on night 2.   Bold.

Good old Pier 48.

I just saw the video from Heart of Town of Touch of Grey with Stu. That's what I'm talking about!

From Grahame Lesh and Friends on Facebook:

I didn’t expect that this would be my first post after performing in front of tens (hundreds?) of thousands of people last weekend, but life is weird. I’ll write something soon about Heart of Town (Stephen Stills!!!) and of course the amazing kindness that Bob, Mickey, John, Jeff, Jay, and especially Oteil showed to me & my family in having me up to play my Dad’s basses with Dead & Company this weekend to celebrate the 60th. Here are some photos from the weekend, though!

But first, some more pressing matters! When it rains it pours, right? Due to a family situation that has come up (don’t worry, all will be fine), I will need to stay home in the Bay Area for the next little while, which unfortunately means I’ll miss out on some upcoming out of town shows over the next couple weeks.

(LIst of shows, including Truckee)

I’m very sorry to have to do this, but family comes first! I know a bunch of you are new followers from this weekend and may have been excited to see what kind of musical stuff I get up when I’m not trading Cumberland Blues bass riffs with Oteil, but there will be time for that in the future! Stay tuned

Just listened. Bolder indeed than what I expected. Not half-bad.
