Both nights in Paris were really good. I'm glad this is being released. Berlin would also be a great release from this tour.

i snuck in to one of the 2 shows. was a great venue. yes, i know the roof leaked.

First night better imho but probably withheld due to a Hornsby tune?

This release contains Stander on the Mountain and Valley Road.

Is the Hornsby material an issue?

Pure Jerry from Hampton had Bruce, as did a few dicks picks releases (I think 9 & 17?)

Though I suppose that was a long time ago

Doh

thanks mike

Unnecessary release lol

Interesting I was mistaken

Is anything a necessary release at this point?

The Europe Tour was my last full Dead tour just after graduating from college.  Having lived in Paris and the son of a Parisian these shows were special and they happened to be a couple fo the best from the tour.   We met Vince in front of the Galeries Lafayette department  store.  Lot's of stories about this tour.

Craig from VA,  if you read this reach out.

Hell in a bucket > epstein files > jam?

I'm psyched.   Have all of it already but love that it's a "newer" release.   I'll still argue Hornsby did more in one year with the dead than most keyboard players.  And Jerry loved playing with him. Interplay was always strong between the two.  I wish that he'd stayed longer and worked through some of his songs.

I'm the opposite.  I believe Hornsby held back the potential of the actual keyboard player and stepped all over others on stage with little regard for who was playing what. And the accordion? Ugh

i honestly believe that if they stuck with only Vince, he would have fit in much better. He def had the ability to play outside the bounds  contrary to popular belief

yes Jerry liked him but he also liked a lot of Angels, and we see how that worked out in Altamont

I actually saw Vince play with The Tubes on Halloween 1976, a few months before I first saw the Grateful Dead. That Tubes show was at the Pavilion in Concord, California. Curiously, both Keith and Brent were from Concord. Strange synchronicity with Grateful Dead keyboard players runs very deep.

Bruce was alright with the Dead, but if the idea was for him playing cover for Vince, that was not necessary. Always has bugged me that Vince got short shrift when he was an excellent player and obviously his heart was deep into the music. Following in that roll after Brent's tragic death were huge shoes to fill. Attaboy, Vince!

There's a Bobby and the Valentines show from 94 with Vince on piano and he sounds great. Always thought he got a raw deal with the Dead having to play with a shitty sounding keyboard.

Then again Brent used what sounds like a children's $5 keyboard from Toys R Us in his early days and people seemed to love it.

Make it make sense.

Wasn't this the first European shows since 81? Word was Jerry hated playing overseas because getting drugs through customs was a hassle. As the story goes, Pete Townshend came up huge in the clutch on that 81 tour with some killer heroin. Was Jerry clean in late 90? I didn't think so but perhaps he was.

From the looks of the 81 Rockpalast video, I'd say Townshend was good for a coke hook-up, at least.

Bob Bralove also had wayyyy more creative influence over the bands sound then he should've had

Good video for '94, same band@ the Fillmore 2/14/95. https://archive.org/details/valentines1995-02-14.mtx.miller.117207.flac16

And it didn't help Healy had Vince cranked up to 11 in the mix with those cringy MIDI tones.

Not to mention all the bullshit he pulled with Weir, trying to sabotage his sound and get himself into the band.

Fuck that guy.
