Spain, Portugal and part of France have no power and there has been no reason given. Maybe there has by now.

I watch tennis, the Madrid Open was canceled for the day/night after only 2 matches and hopes to return early morning tomorrow, our time. It was the whole countries, not just the big cities, and it seems the power is coming on in some areas. Just about everything beside some hospitals is closed. Stay tuned.

Because all of the ATP and WTA tournaments now have electronic line calling, no people involved, matches could not continue. Indoor courts, dark locker rooms, etc. Some tennis players who usually have transportation are walking back to their hotels, some an hour and a half away, carrying their heavy bags of rackets and supplies. No ATM's and many travelers don't carry cash.
(This is something to remember here in the U.S., where earthquakes and other natural disasters, man made disasters like police actions or energy provider takeovers or whatever that might look like - keep some cash around if you can.)

It's 10:40 PM in Madrid and players report that the power is has started to come on. I don't know about anywhere else.

Reuters and others report: It was possible the blackout had been caused by a "very large oscillation in electrical voltage, first in the Spanish system, which then spread to the Portuguese system",

USA Today: the cause may have been something called "induced atmospheric vibration," a rare phenomenon where weather changes affect power lines.

I've never heard of this phenomemon in power lines...

Others reported the same thing but most said the cause is under investigation.

We had an osprey electrocute itself and start a fire while building a nest today on top of a utility pole, knocked out service for a few thousand of us for a few hours.

I had a light bulb go out.

Luckily I had a spare.

How many Surfdeads did it take to change that light bulb?

How many hippies does it take to screw in a light bulb?

None. There's no room to screw  -  in a light bulb.

How many Deadheads does it take to screw in a light bulb?

What's a light bulb??   In this captivating display of creativity, a hand gracefully holds a clear lightbulb that intriguingly encases a luminous brain. This vivid representation not only highlights the lightbulb as a universal symbol for ideas and enlightenment but also cleverly integrates the brain, emphasizing the deep connection between human intellect and innovative thinking. The backdrop of soft, glowing bokeh enhances the magical and inspirational vibe, making it a powerful metaphor for creativity and intellectual illumination.
