Phil's re-emergence truly patched a gaping wound in my very soul after Jerry's passing.
I recall sitting at my kitchen table one night - the family asleep and me catching that private hour before bed with the Sunday NY Times.
I turned the page to read the headline: "The Grateful Dead Is Dead"
an unsurprising announcement, but BOY - it blew a hole in me.
When Weir & Hornsby did Jack Straw a time or two, I jones-d like a junkie.
.... and then those kids singing Hello Old Friend and the 3 magical nights of the high music to follow
Fast forward to 2002. I kinda forgot where I'd parked in NYC before a Nokia show and couldn't find my car. Took the 6am bus home to New Paltz and walked the blocks home from the bus station to find my Middle School-er and his bus-mates at the corner waiting for the school bus.
That night he asked: "Why cant you be like a normal father and play golf !?!?"
He is off to see a Dead & Co Sphere show and then join his brother for 4/20 Phish ....... we have not yet payed golf.
None of that would have happened in my family without the re-emergence of Mr Phillip Lesh

Smiles all around.
What a smile on Phil's face in that second shot.
Smiles all around.
Oh, we lucky few who know the glories of Phil Lesh and his many friends.
Including all of us.
And how far out is that?!?
Pretty fuckin' far out.
Let's carry on.
