Done transplanting my killer plants...    Sundews;  over 80 in 2" pots, 50 in 3" pots...    have to wait a bit longer on the flytraps, they're a month behind last year.

Here's window # 1 (have them in 5 other windows)

I let my friend know about the vinyl release because it's his picture on the cover and he bought me a copy as thanks. Now I have to buy a turntable.

Decided to let a bunch of the carnivores enjoy the outdoors before they all go up for sale next week.  Quite the feeding frenzy as hoped for!

Gregory Arch is about to go back under water with the run off reaching Lake Powell

greg_0.jpg

That's not the same arch as above, but wow.

Am curious as to what the  arch above from 2002 and 2013 looks like now.

Have recently heard rumblings of a return in August!

(Two shows, but not sure what band)

Am curious as to what the  arch above from 2002 and 2013 looks like now.<<<

Recently read the part in Desert Solitaire where Edward Abbey rode in a down the Colorado before Lake Powell ... it's really mind-blowing to think about what it looked like!

If I can jump in a minute for Mark and Joy.

Just came from a writer's conference, "Writing For The Land", at Entrada Institute near Capitol Reef. The re-emergence of Glen Canyon was a topic and a filmmaker Dawn Kish showed her 20 minute film "Tad's Emerging World", where Dawn takes the 4X5 camera of Tad Nichols down to Glen Canyon to photograph the canyon Tad did for so many years. They premiered it at the Banff Film Festival and were on their way to the Telluride Film Fest.  Here's the trailer  https://photographylife.com/dawn-kish-tads-emerging-world

I saw Tad's book of Glen Canyon images and it is stunning. Tad bequeathed the camera to his close friend, who accompanied Dawn on some of these trips (8 in all, I think) and she announced he will now be passing the camera on to Dawn.

If you want to stay on top of the Glen Canyon story, the Glen Canyon Institute is a great place to check in with https://www.glencanyon.org/. River levels have been rising and will again inundate many of the side canyons temporarily, but given the miraculous resilience of the canyon after 50 years, the effects of this temporary drowning may well be a negligible setback.

One author I enjoy is Morgan Sjogren, who just released a remarkable book "PATH OF LIGHT: A Walk Through Colliding Legacies of Glen Canyon." She backpacked 300 miles around Lake Foul and the Bears Ears region. She also got hired to go down and document the re-emerging life in the canyon and that story is here:  https://www.biographic.com/songs-of-the-dammed/

Another author at the workshop was Zak Podmore, an adventurer who will have his book on the re-emerging Glen Canyon come out in about a year. Great writer who spent months on the rivers and lake in research. Again, like Morgan's book, through Torrey House Press, a great little publisher in Salt Lake. https://www.torreyhouse.org/   I just finished enjoying his book "Confluence"  https://www.torreyhouse.org/confluence

Sorry for the sidetrack. I'll throw in a pic of Grand Staircase on the photo thread.

Thanks Slick.  That was very interesting. And beautiful.

Thanks Slick. Great reads!

Caught yesterday on lake foul, 50 inches. approx 17 years old

Good gawd! What a fish! What an exciting fight that must've been. Must've felt lake ya had a sunken Ford truck on the end of the line, if it wasn't for the movement.

I'm too stupid to know what that is. Edible? Or did ya throw it back?  Enjoy the days!

Striped Bass. Introduced to the lake by Utah Fish and Game to increase fishing tourism to the lake.

The are no limits on how many you can catch  I've heard of guys taking home 100+ smaller bass 2-6lbs  16-24 inches and putting them in their freezer

Whole asian families from Salt Lake will fish the docks all night long filling big iced coolers. Grandparents in chairs, grandkids sleeping next to them on the docks

The big one pictured above peeled away from the school and grew on its own which is rare

That big the meat won't taste good, The fisherman above plans to get it stuffed and hang on his wall

Looks photoshopped.
