not sure why you would see this as crass, but im also totally unsure as to what small child in 2022 really needs or wants to know about veggie burritos on dead lot
This isn't really a bad idea, it just doesn't look like it's done that well.
If you're a parent (or grandparent) deadhead with lots of tie-dye & GD imagery around, it's not a bad way to connect with a young kid.
Way back in ancient times when I worked with pre-schoolers, kindergartners & 1st graders, I loved to read to the kids and I made up stories on the spot as well. It's an amazing thing to watch how kids connect with the stories & imagery of a well written, well illustrated children's book, and anything that gets & holds their attention so the lessons of the story can be taken in is a good thing.
custies are people who have very little in depth knowledge within a given market or subculture, and tend to base their choices on shallow, surface level things that rarely translate to actual quality but serve as good advertising for people who have trouble thinking critically or admitting they are out of their depth.
the lack of knowledge, focus on shallow/surface level qualities, propensity to fall for advertising without critical thinking, and the lack of ability to admit they are out of their depth and ask for help means that they can be easily taken advantage of by companies or people looking for a profit.
these people also tend to serve as major sources of profit in spaces where sellers often give good deals to customers who are more saavy and knowledgeable, such as many facets of "dead lot" - especially drugs. the custies subsidize a sellers ability to give more saavy customers free/discounted goods.
Good Lord, it's a harmless children's book. I'm not sure it warrants the outrage it's getting. Nobody's getting hurt, nobody's being forced to buy or read it. It's just a picture book that I'm sure will make people smile. It's not pissing on your lawn.
1. The people who use it in earnest and act on it are making snap judgments based on nothing more than looks. They have no idea what anyone's back story is.
2. It creates a fake hierarchy that is antithetical to what the scene should be. It fucks up the scene.
3. The people who use it in earnest tend to be not very nice.

Apparently they're sold in exchange for miracles. But I thought miracles were gifts, not monetary transactions.

My issues with the whole "custie" thing:
1. The people who use it in earnest and act on it are making snap judgments based on nothing more than looks. They have no idea what anyone's back story is.
2. It creates a fake hierarchy that is antithetical to what the scene should be. It fucks up the scene.

Everybody is a custie. Uber-custies are the ones who think they aren't.
And is it the custies who fuck up "the scene", or is it the ones who look to take advantage?
