SSIA show at 8PM pre-show tune mix before that. Always a chance it doesn't happen, the band's sound engineer streams the non-festival shows when he can. Cross your fingers everything is working just the way it needs to

Had a ticket for this one,
I had a ticket for this one, but I just couldn't make the two hour drive.
I listened to a good bit of the stream. In that context, as usual I liked the traditional bluegrass/acoustic grooves much better than the "stretched out" bits, but then I'm not in the room with the lights and the vibe and all.
And I REALLY like the fiddle player. That dude is fucking great. He makes the whole thing whole.
A good friend who lives in Sac, a friend who got me into the Grateful Dead in the '70s was there tonight. He's not schooled in bluegrass or acoustic styles, and he doesn't really know anything about Billy Strings, but he went to the show because his very wise sons got him to go, and he really, really enjoyed it.
Generations pass it on.
On it goes.

Carrie was at the show on the rail last night. She mentioned Running On Empty. That's a good bet for tonight in the Bay Area. She also said wild show with more of the stretches jams than most shows. Bill feeling a little irritated and reckless was her description. I am seeing him in LA on Sunday night. Lance I'm with you on the new fiddle guy. Really good!

Shakey, I'll be at the Wiltern show on Sunday too. My email's in my profile if you'd like to try to meet up before the show. Also, Trey has a show in LA on Saturday, and no show on Sunday before a Monday show in AZ, so I'm wondering if we might get a sit-in. Billy and Trey seemed to enjoy the hell out of the set they did on that rooftop back east earlier this year.
> I REALLY like the fiddle player. That dude is fucking great. He makes the whole thing whole.
I was watching the webcast from Colorado over the weekend with some friends, and I asked at one point "How did we not miss Alex' part in this before he became a permanent member of the band?" and my buddy Gary answered with something along the lines of "It's like his space was always there, and he just had to step in to fill it."

Saw the gig last night. Went in 'dry' never really having listened to Billy Strings previously. Word of mouth, his character and friends recommendations urged me and boy I'm glad I did!
I think this dude has created a new genre 'Psychedelic Bluegrass' - Obviously I'm not sure on that so feel free to chime in otherwise if needed :)
Some of the audience were hardcore Deadheads which was awesome. Had a smoke break with a random dude who saw 300+ shows starting in 1973.
Killer time, new hero!!

Turtle, if you manage to find a ticket, it might not be too pricey. At Billy's request, transferring tickets for this show is blocked, and the only way to resell them is through Live Nation for the same price that you paid for them.
On a related subject, earlier this week Billy had a few things to say about non-fan ebayers who have been taking advantage of his kindness and generosity.

Probably my favorite of the Billy Strings streams I've seen is the second set in NY 11/15/19 where Brandon “Taz” Niederauer played the second set. That space was thoughtfully filled and had flow; they were all generous with each other and left spaces.
I love William Apostol's skills, playing, choices, sensibilities, many things. I love his solo playing. I keep listening to the band but again and again I'm not a bluegrass fan. The psychedelic feel, loose, not scripted, where there is space between the notes is what I'm there for. Bluegrass songs rarely give me that, and it's mostly the banjo, and secondly, the mando that do that. I think I've said all of this before but as I listened off and on last night it hit me again.

judit, I see a parallel between Billy's approach to the music and the GD's. They both use the frameworks of songs, and story songs mostly, as the launching pad for their explorations, and while I love both bands' songs, it's the jams that keep the music not just fresh and interesting, but alive and kicking as well.

I'm using the ellipses to say, but does what you wrote speak to my difficulty with crowded bluegrass music? Perhaps that wasn't your intent.
My struggle is enjoying so many things about him, but not getting to a place of enjoying the band.

If you're not listening to this band through real speakers or good 'phones, you're missing an entire dimension of the sound.

Too many notes.
And yes, Bluest, I think each of them is an excellent musician. Royal MF, indeed. I will try headphones again, though they may not be good ones. I don't see how that will create more space in the sound, but maybe it'll layer instead of making a solid plane. I'll try.
