Quite often peaks are accompanied by some real low spots. Another example is Woodstock, which took place a week or so after the Manson murders, and a few months before the Stones' Altamont show.
It would be neat if Viva included an asterisk or other demarcation of posts which had been edited. Y'know what I mean?
And,* I don't entirely disagree with OP!<<<
Yeah, that's a useful bell / whistle that plays out well on many other boards / platforms, but wouldn't that go against the grain of mirroring the "old zone"?
Not having a great day, so I did make a few edits (within the allotted time) if that's what you're talking about.
> Perhaps 1969 / Woodstock might have been a better choice regarding the high point?
Face, I think you missed my post right before yours. Woodstock, while a high point, took place in the midst of some heinous shit too.<<<
I did see it Mike, but I didn't quite respond as well as I could've. I had kinda questioned whether a "peak" should necessarily be associated with the US in an effort to say that yeah, not only was bad shit going down in the US, but undoubtedly around the globe too.
Guess I was thinking of it in terms of an alien that visits our desolate planet after nuclear destruction (sometime in the near future). It'd be difficult to imagine the US not involved in a nuclear exchange that wiped out everything, so figure it's appropriate to look within the US for peaks that reflect the ability of the human spirit to soar above its darker animalistic behavior.
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way..."
>> I did make a few edits (within the allotted time) if that's what you're talking about.
Not at all, sir. Just a little early reply irreverence; here's to starting your week with a great day, today.

I just read a funny comic story that considers just that, but wherein the alien visitors are... us.
Of course, in this tale, we never make it out of the 1950s.

Sure, but the war in Vietnam was just really getting going.
1967 was also the long, hot summer when a bunch of US cities had riots.

Just like the broad nature of a "peak year" goes for tunes, I had to pick year ... so Summer of Love was convenient & didn't have much time.
Perhaps 1969 / Woodstock might have been a better choice regarding the high point?
Then again, it's all US centric.

Gold. In fact, that might be the funniest thing I've read on the zone this year.
Life is rhythms. Peaks and valleys. If we ever achieve a state of stasis, we're not living anymore. We're dead.
