If you like mushrooms....

you might want to check out this movie:

"Fantastic Fungi is also a portrait of a community of mushroom obsessives—who journalist Eugenia Bone beautifully describes as, “bloated pleasure-seekers with a scientific bent.” Along with Stamets and others, there are pop-psychedelic thinkers such as Michael Pollan and Andrew Weill, Baltimore mushroom grower William Padilla-Brown, and Baltimore-based psychedelic researcher and thinker Bill Richards of Hopkins’ Center for Psychedelic & Consciousness Research, known for his work exploring how psychedelics can help those with addiction and the way that mushrooms—when used responsibly—can unlock what he has called a “mystical consciousness,” shared by all.

The most fascinating—and convincing and moving—scenes are with those who have been part of Hopkins’ psilocybin research: Tony Head, diagnosed with prostate cancer, taking psilocybin, awakening from the hours-long experience, weeping as he describe the full feelings it introduced, removing the very real fear of death that has incapacitated him.

Here, in a medical setting (a living room approximation somewhere on the Johns Hopkins Medical campus) where psilocybin research happens, its possibilities (and some of the broad and loopy ideas that fuel Fantastic Fungi) are pretty much proven to be empirically true."

Oooh thanks for this reminder... I read about this film last fall.

Not sure if Stamets still lives in Olympia, WA area but I ordered spores from him once... I studied for a certificate in Permaculture and my final project was on mushrooms and potential industrial applications. The grow experiment in my closet, however, was a flop.

Postcards I got from Huautla de Jimenez, Mexico in 1993.  Shroom capitol of Mexico.

my hubby will love this

thanks!

The pic on the bottom -- what does the label say?  Looks similar to some in the NW.

^ They're called Derrumbe mushrooms. The strongest ones there. They grow usually on rocky hillsides which gets lot's of water if I understand right. At least was told that in Mexico. They appear in summer months I guess when I wasn't there. The others are San Isidro or Cubensis which grow in cow shit.

Thanks Doolittle -- cubensis is the variety I've found in the NW ... plenty of bullshit in this corner of the country, LOL.

On April 21st, we invite you to join us for a virtual gathering featuring live streamed conversations with researchers, educators and solutionaries about our planet’s most pressing environmental and global challenges.

Featuring Paul Stamets, Louie Schwartzberg, Suzanne Simard, Jason Silva and many more special guests, the panel discussions will run throughout Fungi Day and be available to watch for free on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. In between each Q & A session, Director Louie Schwartzberg’s imagery of nature will take us on a journey through time and scale to immerse us in the healing energy of Mother Earth during this time of isolation.

Watch the March 26 Q&A with Paul Stamets, Louie Schwartzberg, Suzannne Simard and more for a taste of what is to come.

You can watch Fantastic Fungi on Netflix, didn't see it mentioned in thread.

We just had the Telluride Mushroom Festival this past weekend; which always coincides with the period at which mushrooms make their appearance in the wild. This year has been off the charts.

While I didn't actually attend any of the festival's seminars, I did walk in the parade (without a costume) which culminates at a drum circle, and also hung out at the identification tables and spoke with vendors who set up booths with various "merchandise" ... ranging from mushroom related apparel and jewelry, to actual mushroom products.

It is on this last count that my interest was piqued ... I wound up trying a sample of chai that contained Lion's Mane and Cordyceps. It's kind of funny, because I originally had no intention of trying the sample until I overheard someone say "I can't believe they let their kid have some" (a little ways away from the booth). After hearing that, I couldn't resist

About 30-60 minutes later, it starts to hit me! It wasn't anything overpowering like their "magic" cousins, but was far more potent than I would've guessed. I would agree that it's not something for kids, although it's not outrageously over the top either. I wound up buying a powdered version of Lion's Mane and a tincture of Cordyceps ... so was able to at least ascertain how I felt on a known dosage. I really like how the Lion's Mane heightens "focus" & will experiment further, but curious if anyone has tried either of these and has any words of wisdom?

Heard of capsules containing cordyceps, lions mane and cubensis mushrooms. Maybe one more. The cubensis are a micro dose and the overall effect is supposed to be enlightening. Been trying to get some.

^ it wouldn't really be all that hard to make your own mixture if you have all of the ingredients.

I tried their "Mind Mix" and subsequently purchased the Lion's Mane from this exhibitor booth at the festival:

https://hamiltonsmushrooms.com/

I would've also purchased their cordyceps too, but want to try it separately as a tincture and went with a different exhibitor (also to "spread the wealth"):

Both of these outfits appear to be "doing it right", but I'm definitely not an expert.

Having said that, I would suggest determining the threshold of what would be a micro dose of the other for you to be sure not to exceed it in the mixture.  Likewise, I'd also determine what might be a "regular dosage" for cordyceps and lion's mane independent of one another & as a mixture ... then experiment with various ratios of any of the above.
