If you want to see more of what the Haight St Fair really looked like:

The cool thing for me is that ths annual summer fair, headlined by Merl and Friends for 24 years, was held outside the hologram gallery biz where I worked. (Not me in pic.)

And the next weekend was the 85 Greeks. So the fair, with Brent and Bobby, was like an appetizer.

In 85 the Haight wasn't gentrified yet and was still populated by a crazy assortment of  hippy dregs and punk kids. It got a bit nuts whenever the Dead were playing in the Bay area.

Yep I was there fun times fer sure

I saw Merl play HSF, but it was a couple years after, I think. His band was fun, but Violent Femmes were the best band I saw play HSF.

^Wow, that's a new one to me. I saw them open for GD at Buckeye Lake in '91 but it made not even a blip for me...and they played no such H>S>F at that time & place either.

Well, it wasn't a Grateful Dead event, just free music on Haight Street so the vibe was different. All sorts of people not just deadheads and The Violent Femmes set had everyone going nuts after a day of wild partying all around. I wasn't even like a superfan or anything but they threw down!

Best band I saw play the bandshell in GGP was Fishbone for similar reasons.

The new date for this year's HSF is October 16 11-5:30

maybe Bobby stops by before his Bday shoe @ Warfield...
