Can we talk about the Phil incident?

Forums:

Any info on what might happen?

Sure -- Phil will be forced to dress up as typical Cheesehead fans do, especially w/ a feather boa, sequins and some tight psychedelic pants and an aloha shirt with freaky cat face print .... then play jamgrass with sudden shifts into spacey dance club covers, like "Groove is in the Heart" -- Don't miss it! ;)

Gods willing it'll be a rainbow boa

Does he get to wear a cape?

Phil taking the Bootsy part might be cosmically cool.

Agree, that *would* be cosmically cool.

I forgot the cape! So SCI 2010.

What, Phil can't Hula-Hoop?

Cheese is a great band to see live.  I like Jamgrass > Spacey Dance Club Covers. I have fun every time. Wouldn't travel too far though.  Or wear a boa.

What about glitter?

Thanks for the link, plf!

> What about glitter?

Only if Phil plays barefoot.

Don't get me wrong, I've had plenty of fun dancing at SCI camping fests, and that's where I first discovered the silent disco.

Plus, they seem like super nice humans.

If I were in Colorado, I'd go... they do have some truly cheesy original songs....my only minor complaint about them is that they don't edit their jams well --  for me, they become boring at a certain point.

my only minor complaint about them is that they don't edit their jams well<<<

What do you mean by "edit"?

I've heard the jams are more "scripted" than what some might guess.

Personally, I can get "cheesed out" somewhat quickly with a set / show that takes on a "heavy handed" flavor with too much untz.   Having said that, I'm willing to sit through the "bad parts" to appreciate what they do well.

"What do you mean by "edit"?"   >>> Maybe a better word would be directed or scripted?  Or lack of a leader like Phil?

There has been more than one jam at a live performance where they repeat a 2 or 3-note phrase for a surprising length of time before the jam finds it's natural ending.  I always wonder if they were repeating because whoever was supposed to solo didn't jump in on the right beat and had to wait for another opportunity?

I think of it as like a story arc -- beginning, middle, end.... they sometimes get stuck in the middle, that's all. Sometimes an entire show / setlist has a story arc, too.

I had to look up "untz" but it turns out to be the cheese I didn't care for.

They still doing that?  I thought it was just a phase.

Every time I open this thread I expect it to be about this incident:

Phil and Jill salute_0.jpg

Sorry about the bad quality download

LOL Judit   I think that's when I joined the Zone, remember that thread...

If you played with SCI, it would be the Judit Incident! ;)

All I know is that Cheese, Phil, and I are going to be at Red Rocks on a Sunday and a gouda time is expected. Will report back.

Phil stole Noodler's Ray Gun

If The Doobie Incident at LOCKN 2015 is any indication of The Cheese's ability to mesh with any other great band fantastically, I think we are going be Ragin' Sunday !!!

https://youtu.be/l9uvHwQjsNk

^^^ SCI, AKA best cover band in the world, hee hee

it will be a good time.

Upon further review,  that was NOT Phil at all at the Bridgeport show, but a cheap Japanese knockoff lookalike droid, who don't play bad. Watch the official vids that are now free on youtube and before they begin playing, you can clearly see the Phil droid plug a power pack into his chest. I swear, he lifts his shirt oh so sneekily and clink, I could even hear it snap into place. Thankfully he had the chops down, you know them Japs and technology, well programmed.

That's my story and I'm stickin to it

I will be there to witness the Incident.

I wonder if the Phil Incident is just in the opening slot? Then 2 sets of normal Cheese?

Has there been any formal announcement as to the structure of the show?

I loved the 99 cross-over PHincident cuthbert

(short phil sit-ins set 1 &2 ...then full blown set3 )

fun times :)

im thinking set 1 > old time cheese

set 2 > disco/dance cheese

set 3 > old time dead reaching out far and wide

I would hope it's a couple of sets of Phil with SCI backing him.

Heading to Dillon within the hour & hope to survive until Sunday to see Phil.

I'm not sure about the format ... haven't seen anything officially posted or rumors.

My guess would be ab opening set with Phil then two sets of Cheese with Phil joining in for the final song or two at the end of the night, but they could easily do it any way they want.

I did see a short clip on FB of a few of them totally goofing around with a version of Jackstraw with Keith on guitar ... and a shorter Deal ... so maybe they're working these two up.

I am really looking forward to this and just ponied up the bargain $19.99 to stream it. The guys in the band are Heads and are heavily influenced by The Grateful Dead so I am sure they are more than ready for it as well. I really enjoyed what SCI did with The Dooble Brothers back in 2015 @ LockN for The Doobie Incident and like/appreciate their overall ability to play almost anything and turn on dimes. Should be a blast of a real good time!

But I still like LLOLLO'S pre rundown, although I hope it's not quite like that. sort of. LOL

Two Sunday Tickets Face, email in profile.

Tix refunded, not available.

Word on the street is William Apostal will be the special guest this evening. Hopefully he brings that Orange amp and plugs in #33.

FOM...I will be looking for you. What color is your mask, and will you be wearing wings.

Looks like I will have to buy the stream tonight...

I called it!

LLOLLO called it, and  Nancy nailed it. Nice work, zoners.

Refunded Tix for tonight but bought stream.  Should be sweet from the rocks.

Gary and I were just talking about how you might handle this late-breaking news, Andy. See you in the stream.

I caught the Strings sit in at DelFet many moons ago.

It was the highlight of the show for sure since B Strings managed to light a fire under the mostly-going-thru-the-motions Cheese. Made Nershi rise to the occasion.

This might be an interesting show (if the Cheeses don't act all patronizing).

From Billy's Insta. Definitely downtown Denver.

People bailed and now there are offers of $100 for tix.

Happy for the lucky folks there!

Showtime.

Billy and the band sound good so far.

Strings Cheese Dusters. Andy Hall is a nice addition. Fun set.

Decided to spring for the stream, good stuff maynerd!

I wouldn't have predicted Paranoid either esp. with String Cheese, but Billy's played it before. Planet Caravan is his go-to with his own band.

Billy brought it.

That was a lot of fun!

Phil was missed but it was a great concert.

20220718_003727_copy_990x568.jpg

That guitar duel between Billy and Bill and the end of Paranoid was sick.

Those shots are ridiculous stringtwang

I need to relisten later this morning, but did anyone else hear a bunch of teases of the old Mountain song Mississippi Queen in the jam going into Paranoid?

There's a Shakedown missing from the second set list above (after TOO).
