~We have lost one of the best Zoners- Howie MSG ~

Forums:

I just heard he passed away today and I want to send love and support to his family - he was such a great person, father, friend -

We had plans to visit when I was in Vegas for Phish Halloween, but had to cancel when he got a call for important doctors visit.

I can't tell you how much he cracked me up and always, hooked me up!

Shapiro was kind to him, while he worked at Brooklyn Bowl, Vegas- while we were there for Ween, Howie got wristbands from him to be in his private box over the stage (and the place was packed) and he gave them to me

He let a pack of Zoners stay with him, years ago... took us all around, knew the best places to eat

but the memory I love (and we always laughed about) he took us to a spot that had Grateful Dead sneakers and we all got a pair -

Jammin Joel too!

We would meet up when I was in town, share smokes, go get Bahn Mi, then check out a show- such a cool, kind, funny guy:)

Damn, I hate losing people like him, too soon.

He was a big part of the Philzone and friends to so many -

I know he would have some funny quip about all  this, but all I can say is

Farewell, Howie MSG- you were one of a kind and I love ya!!!

xxxoooRoshamboxxxxooo

MSGMan!!!  I am heartbroken right now at the thought of you no longer being with us.  I know that you will watch over us like you have done ever since knowing you.  I will forever love you Brother.  Sending prayers, energy and love to the Green Family!!!  This is a tough one.  He was always thinking of others before himself.  (((RIP Howie))) May the forewinds blow you safely home!!

Zoner down

when together, two of the saddest words in the world

RIP Howie

condolences family and friends

Condolences to family and friends.

That sucks.  Vibes for his friends and family.

Only met him once and he struck me as a solid dude. Condolences to all who are feeling the loss.

I was there for the Allman Bros show with him and everyone else that time we went to to tennis shoe outlet. Still have mine somewhere. Tar, you guys were there too right?

Howie and his daughter used to come to LA periodically, and we would checkout another place from Diners Drive-ins and Dives.  He was a special guy and I will miss him. Another friend down. Tough yr.

RIP Dear Howie aka MSG MAN !  A Fine Zoner !!

MarkD - Sure were.  I have a few pairs of those GD Converse and a poster/advertisement he sent me two weeks later.  I am really going to miss him and his friendship.

He was a mensch.

During the times he took his daughter Nicole to L.A. for treatment we spent many nights talking (mostly via email). He loved his family, his friends, his Zoner family, deeply. He cared.

It's been a rough time over the last year (maybe longer ?) with his health. Really rough.

He was a mensch.

Damn.  This is a tough one.

Seems I remember him too from the Mule stall.  Rest In The Jams Brother

Rest in Peace. I always enjoyed the so many many threads. I was envious of anyone that had a chance to hang out.

So sad to hear. RIP Howie, you were a truly solid human and a stand-up Zoner.

Never had the pleasure of meeting Howie, but sounds like I should have.

Sorry for everyone's loss and condolences to his family.

Ohhh, my heart is breaking as i hear this news :( . Bob messaged me earlier, but I was at work....just heartbreaking !

Howie was always there for me, we messaged back and forth a lot and I have had the pleasure of hanging with him when he came East, always kind and he knew his facts...so great speaking with him. He always was sending me cool violin clips and vids as he knew I enjoyed the weird stuff. I  remember when we all rallied around him when his daughter was so young and sick, how devastating for her now.

This hits hard, death has been getting closer and closer to me, in my thoughts and I have lost a lot of friends and family this year !

Sending out Love and Light to his family right now,

(((( MSG Man ))))  RIP1535100454927363-rosso-angelo-PREVIEW.jpg

Sorry to hear this  - rest in peace Howie.

I never met him when in Vegas many times-- but I remember all his cool posts in the good old days when he worked MSG.

Howie was a great guy...Rest in Peace my brother.

RIP

Damn.

Never met Howie, but he was the Zone's hookup for innie info about BB LV when it opened up... Bummer to lose another good Zoner.

RIP Howie.

Fare Thee Well

Howie

Sad day.  Bon voyage Howie!

Well this sucks. RIP Howie. Sorry you had health issues. And best to his daughter. Great guy. Whenever folks needed Vegas or BB info, he was the man. Always there.

Nice guy. I remember the GD sneaker thang. Wasn't part of it but it was funny. If I remember right, Howie got folks a deal due to "volume" purchasing. True?

Cool profile, with a pic: https://vivalazone.org/users/msg-man

Pic from the Allman's Vegas show. Weird with all the pools.

Recieved this email from an old Zoner legend .

Mark
I hope you are well. Just stopped by Viva and saw about Msgman . In case his family posts could you please post my condolences if it’s not a problem. I don’t post on Viva or FB anymore

Thanks
Ed

Also this story would show his kindness if you want to copy and post

From NYCED
Took my sister to see Springsteen’s Seger Band . Had nosebleeds but went early to go down to the floor to see Howie. Long story short we BS a bit , introduce my sister and he turns to me says count the seats in the row for me ? Wtf Howie did you lose a chair? Just count, ok 15! Great supposed to be 13 these two on the end are yours, never asked to be bumped, and he refused money , just did a favor for a friend . One of the great ones RIP

I remember hang'n in your room at the ABB show Tar. Was a great time.  Slick, were you there? That window shot looks really familiar.

This is a truly phine thread pholks. Thank you.

Yeah, I was there, Mark. I was impressed with the Red Rocks resort. Not a fan of Vegas AT ALL, but the interior decor was cool and the buffet was great.

Got to shake hands with Derek Trucks in the lobby.

NYCEd is good folks, too. Glad Howie took care of him. Ed e-mailed me recently.

Yeah good thread. Too bad the reason sucks.

This still hasn't hit me

Too many zoners gone

Some of longest known and loved family and phamily

As someone else said:

It is "nice" when we gather. If only we were celebrating and not rounding wagons. Again

That's why on the way home this day from the orchard, dropped by for a very lovely visit with DMama & Kenny..... and chatted with Noelle for the half hour prior to arriving at their place

We all toasted Howie, as it were

we need to stay connected as much as we can ~

Those that we really love need to hear and know it.

Our community has lasted nearly a quarter of a decade so far, with birth, kinship, romance, the deepest of connections in 2 AND 3d, and, even with our deep and heart wrenching losses; we truly will never fade away

((((((((((PZSTRONG))))))))))

((((((((((((LeshIsLove)))))))))))))

So much love and appreciation here. I never met him but I salute a life well lived. Cheers!

Very sorry to hear this news. He sure seemed like a quality fellow.

I always enjoyed his posts, and thought he was one of the best of us; no snark, no faux east coast tough guy/wise guy shtick, just thoughtful, insightful, positive contributions.

And his taking us along with him through his daughter's serious difficulties, showing his concerns and his true toughness under such duress made me like him even more. He was one of the zoners I always wanted to meet.

If I recall, he left the zone after he got the gig at the Las Vegas Brooklyn Bowl and everyone on the black screen was bagging on either Shapiro, the venue itself or both, and he got more & more riled by it. As always it seems, a good & loyal man.

For whatever reason, it's too bad he left the zone, and for his family & friends it's really too bad he left the mortal coil, but I'm sure all the folks who knew him appreciate the time they had with him.

Ultimately, all things must pass.

On it goes.
