Music Never Stopped began as a Hunter tune? Hollywood Cantana

From Wikepedia:  "The Music Never Stopped" began life as "Hollywood Cantata", a Weir-Hunter composition. Weir later used lyrics composed by his main writing partner, John Barlow.

Wow. I think I finally found Hunter lyrics that I really don't like. Musically though, that's a nearly fully fleshed-out TMNS.

Hollywood Cantata

Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Bob Weir

Robert Hunter commented in "Box Of Rain": "Unused lyrics I wrote to some rudimentary changes by Bob Weir that eventually became "The Music Never Stopped," by Weir and John Barlow." The version that Weir sings in the outtake on "Blues For Allah" is a stripped-down version of the full lyrics:

Hollywood is everywhere, don't you know
You don't have to learn the line to see the show
Just catch it when it's dark or flying low

Get along down Sunset, yes indeed
Hollywood is what you let it be
What you want is often what you need

Swing low, swing low
For none of us will ever get back home
Swing right, sleep tight
No one here ever goes home at night

Hollywood is everywhere
Graceful children walk on air
Still line up in single file
We'll go down and stare awhile

Hold on honey, tell me does she move
In her knock me down and love me shoes
All the [oil] she's got is for the blues

Have you ever climbed those cut glass stairs
Trick or treat got nothing to compare
Million dollar daydreams end up there

Hollywood is everywhere you know
Don't have to [win love] to see the show
Just catch it when it's dark or flying low

Get along down Sunset, yes indeed
Hollywood is what you let it be
What you want is often what you need

Swing low, swing low
For none of us will ever get back home
Swing right, sleep tight
No one here ever goes home at night

Hollywood is everywhere
Graceful children walk on air
Still line up in single file
We'll go down and stare awhile

Hold on honey, tell me does she move
In her knock me down and fuck me shoes
All the [oil] she's got is for the blues

Have you ever climbed those cut glass stairs
Trick or treat got nothing to compare
Million dollar daydreams end up there

These are the full lyrics in "Box Of Rain":

Hollywood is everywhere you go
Move on in before you lose your glow
Always first in line when you're the show
Trick or treat got nothing to compare
Million-dollar daydreams end up there

Naked virgin startlet saints in love
Fit each other just like hand in glove
Waiting for that message on the phone
Misery when hope drops like a stone
Long and low like K.C. mighta moan

Hollywood is everywhere
Graceful children walk on air
Get down on it when you should
And you'll get by in Hollywood

Sunrise over Sunset, yes indeed
Hollywood is all you let it be
Wait awhile, just hang in there and see
Everyone's got someone else's price
All they want is just another slice

Look at Margo, tell me: can she move
In those knock-me-down-and kick-me shoes?
Gets her feet right down inside the groove
Hollywood is everywhere she go
Spread out from the high heels to the low

Hollywood is everywhere
Graceful children walk on air
If you don't get down when you should
You'll never get to Hollywood

Plain to see you don't fit anywhere
Stand up, some sure to grap your chair
Is this a tail or just the dog it wags
Packed so tight it hardly ever sags
Dips it heart in dime and nickel bags

Don't let your heart be the one she breaks
She don't allow a lover two mistakes
Don't let your heart be the one she breaks
She don't allow a lover two mistakes
Don't let your heart be the one she breaks

Hollywood is everywhere
Graceful children walk on air
If you don't move down there for good
You'll never make it in Hollywood

Interesting.   Never heard that before.

Weir-d song with these lyrics, glad they changed them.
