Morocco

Anyone here spent any time in Morocco? My wife and I will be there for a bit in November and will have about a week to kill around Marrakech. What should we do/see? Any travel tips while there?

My friend Lucas married a Moroccan girl and has lived there for a number of years now, and written some guide books on the country. I suggest his web site as a good place to start for information.

I have only been to the Spanish exclave of Ceuta, but my brother's partner did a stint in the Peace Corps there and he would periodically visit her for extended trips.   Big takeaway is that roads out in the country are shitty and the further you go out into the mountains, the shittier they get.  Easy to get lost too so be careful if you rent a car and start exploring the country.   There are some more modern freeways between the big cities.  Beer and booze was hard to find in general but you can get a bottle of wine at most hotels geared towards Europeans.  French is the lingua franca there..

Start with getting the most recent Lonely Planet guidebook for Morocco... then e mail me nathaniel b clark at g... My sister was leading a trip there so Mom and I figured, "When's the next time we'll get a chance to go to Morocco?". So we went and it was great. I'll tell you everything I know.

Was friends with a German hippie I met in India in 1991 who spent 2 years in a Moroccan prison for trying to smuggle hash into Spain. He was at the the GD/WHO show in Essen in 1981. He gave me a small chunk of hash which I brought back to the US.

Did you keister the hash to get it in the states Doolittle?
