Semi-Annual Zoning Check-In

Forums:

Well hi there . Long-time Zoner (1999), haven't posted in a couple years. What's new?

You from central New York?

Sully, I remember you on the black screen coming back from Asia, creating a family, sharing tickets, music, you. Nice to see you.

Always good to see old zoners checking in.

Makes me feel a bit younger.

Been around since 99 also. Glad to see this place still here.

Fishcane - Yes, Rochester area.

Judit - You have quite the memory! I actually found the Zone while I was living in South Korea, and figuring out a way to check setlists for the Summer Sessions tour (I think that's what it was called). I later did four years in China from 2005-2010, with a year break in the middle. And yes, my daughter was born in 2011, my son in 2013.

Got my first PLQ recording (B & P CDRs of the Q 12/31/00 show from a Zoner named Brick I believe, who was a Zoner mainstay back in the day), back in 2001.

I was a pretty active poster from 2001-2004, and then less so when I was overseas. I was living in the DC area from 2000-2005, so I was able to hit a ton of Phil, Ratdog, and "Dead" shows during that era. It was a great central location from which to hit all those NE and Mid-Atlantic shows they were always playing.

I'm glad "the Zone" still exists, even if not in its original form - it was my primary internet hang for many years! I'll be at a ton of shows this summer in the Upstate NY area, and a bunch of Phish shows on the east coast, if "Zoner gatherings" are still a thing. Would be cool to meet some people. All those years Zoning, I don't think I ever met a Zoner in real life, although I did get to meet Mr. Lesh himself a couple times during those heavy touring years in the early 2000s.

And when I have some more time, I will share the incredible story of how the pandemic just about destroyed me, and how my first show in two years was Phil's kid's band at a small place in Canandaigua, NY, and Phil himself made an unannounced appearance (although I knew he had been showing up at a bunch of other Midnight North shows along the tour) and it was just about the most magical experience of my life to see a surprise Phil appearance at my first show back after the worst 18 months of my life.

I think I met you a dozen years ago or so at either a 7walkers show or maybe Mickey Hart?

Cheers!

Nice to see some new/old recruits, it's just what this place needs. Keep em commin folks

Welcome back, Sully and Mr C. The black screen could use some new/old energy. Hope you'll hang around.

We do need some new old people.

Hiya, Kids!

~Phil Lesh~

Welcome back.

Fishcane - I think you may be correct. Saw Seven Walkers at the Rochester "Party in the Park" many years back.

Last Mickey Hart show was 2012 (I think) at the Westcott in Syracuse. I sprung for the "meet & greet/soundcheck" ticket  and got to meet him, take a photo, and get an autograph. It was a pretty cool experience.

Yes it was at Mickey then. I knew I recognized the name. Cool beans.. have to cross paths again sometime

Hello fellow Rochester area Zoners! Next band I'm seeing in the area is Melvin Seals and JGB on April 25th at the JCC. Maybe we will cross paths.

I'll be at the Tony Levin show at the Lovin Cup in Rochester at the end of March

He is in the Rochester Music Hall of Fame.  https://rochestermusic.org/inductees/class-of-2018/tony-levin/

Looks like Stick Men at the Lovin Cup show is April fools day, maybe I will go.  Thanks for the heads up!

I'm in Syracuse. We have Wolf Bros coming up...

a little too slow for me, but as the  late J J wood used to say,

IMHO.

Super Secret Uber innie zoner heads up: there is a Stickmen show the night before at the lovin cup, that's the one I'll be at

Nice, two shows, maybe it's the Rochester connection.

Mr C - JJ Wood was a good friend, sure miss the guy.

It's the warm up for the tour. He lives there

I just happened to be in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd say Hi.

I remember the old board taking off around when Trey played with Phil in '99. For a few years the conversations were around shows, that was cool. Checking in as a lurker but I've lost too many passwords, and have changed handles too much, to be known here. But I have been paying attention and have things I could say. That is, for my part, there is no smoking Dead stuff involving OG members, ergo not as much to talk about, as there was 20-10 years ago.  God bless everything about Bobby now except the tempo - a big except.  I hope all are well and would love to meet up but festivals are pretty remote for me now.  Let's break bread at a SCZG, I can provide the PA  peace, JG

Sully!!

(((Old Schoolers)))

Forgot to mention I was going to see the Dropkick Murphys this past Tuesday (awesome show and lots of fun). I'll have to see what my next gig is and see if we can have a little Upstate NY Zoner gathering. I know for sure I'll be at Weir in Syracuse next month, along with Drive by Truckers in April, also in Syracuse. Might have some other local shows between now and then though.

Also in for Primus at the orchard place south of Syracuse, Ringo at CMAC, Jason Isbell & Sheryl Crow (also at CMAC), McCartney in Syracuse, and a run of Phish shows in Philadelphia, Bethel, and Hartford. Thinking about Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, and Little Feat, all at the local Kodak Center, but haven't picked up tickets for any of those yet.

Possibly the Decemberists in August, at the same place as the Primus gig, and maybe Jack White, also in August, over at Artpark.

And likely a bunch of others, so yeah, wold be cool to meet some people.
