My mother lives in Healdsburg. I don't care for the town personally. It's right on the 101, so easy drives to my favorite places in Sonoma County though. Its not bad or anything, I'm just not a fan of wine and its a wine town. Actually, I spent an hour in their town square yesterday, it was mostly empty.
It's been a while, but we really liked Sonoma County when we lived there. We lived in Cotati in the early-mid '90s and Healdsburg in the late '90s. Both towns had no/slow-growth governments, in contrast with Rohnert Park and Windsor, who enthusiastically embraced suburban sprawl. We lived outside of the Healdsburg town proper, renting a small house off Bailhache Ave, only 5 or 6 houses up from the River. That was quite rural, and we loved it! Never saw a show at the Raven, but saw many excellent shows at the Luther Burbank Center. Healdsburg is enough north that it rains more than you might expect (6" more than Boulder Creek!) and enough inland that it gets both hotter (many 100+ degree summer days for the grapes) and colder than towns closer to the ocean.
Good luck with the interview. Let us know how it goes.
No idea of local politics but I worked there for three years and never bothered to stick around after I left work because there wasn't any reason to. To be fair they do have free concerts once a week on Tuesdays on the plaza, sometimes with decent acts, but I was always working or clocked out early when they happened. Also the rivere is right there and they have public swimming beach and access for kayaking.

On 1/14, I'm interviewing
On 1/14, I'm interviewing with City of Healdsburg in northern Sonoma County.
Watcha got?
I already know that it's in the middle of vineyards and only 10 minutes from the brewery that makes Pliny beers, LOL.
They also have a community swimming pool, another one of my requirements.
Any live music Deadheads there? Found their newspaper, which has been around since late 1800s, but haven't dug in yet...

Saw Todd Snyder at the Raven a little while ago. Seemed like an OK town. Good luck!
