FIRE in Boulder county Co

WHAT Is Going On ? Updates Please hearing Chaos

Downed power lines and high winds are causing a fire in Boulder. Over 300 homes burned so far.

It started with Chinook winds (not unusual this time of year). Coupled with no rain or snow for months, shit just blew up. Several neighborhoods were engulfed when we left. Hope we have a house tomorrow.

Damn Swingtwang. Good luck. Hope everything turns out OK.  This is unbelievable, and with a snow storm on the way.

Man!!!! Best wishes Stringtwang

I just found out that my house is OK. We stayed as long as we could but I could hear explosions and the roar of houses that were burning. There's no gas, power or clean water but it is getting colder so I need to try to get to the house to shut off the water in case pipes freeze tonight.

We were among the lucky.

That's good news and hope you get your heat and power back on soon!

Yay for Stringtwang, good to hear.

Keep us posted on your situation.

Good to hear String!

Great news string ! What a Tremendous Loss of Property ~ i feel so bad for the Community.

What PLF said. So glad to hear you and the family and your house are OK.

Happy? New Year. I appreciate the vibes all. Here's an update. We came back yesterday as our area was spared by the fire. We have electricity but no gas and have to boil water. It snowed about 8 inches last night and it was 3 degrees when I woke up. We have an electric blanket, a couple of space heaters and an electric stove so we're maintaining about 60 degrees in the house. The power company went house to house yesterday turning off service at the meter. They have to cap the lines to the burn areas before they can begin the process of turning the gas back on. Unlike an electric outage, they have to go house to house and turn on the service and light the furnace and hot water heater.

Meanwhile it was so good to sleep in my own bed last night. We can cook, and I had a spare 5 gallon bottle of spring water on hand.

We are recovering from the covid slowly but steadily and are grateful for all the offers of help from friends and family.

I know people who weren't as lucky but at least nobody died. I found this burned piece of paper in my yard before it started snowing. It could have easily started a spot fire.

I remain, grateful.

So glad you are ok!

We flew to Denver Tuesday to see MMJ and RRE - both cancelled

but we ended up seeing Neal Francis 3 nights at the Globe Hall- the guy is just incredible

Now one of my favorite performers- going to see him Thursday night at the Independent in SF

if we can get a flight back to SF lol

Wasn't  supposed to snow then that wind!!!! We were just going into Meow Wolf at Conversion Station Denver and saw a bunch of smoke

by the time we got out - whole neighborhoods were gone!

just unbelievable- so glad you were spared

hard to wrap your mind around that happening when it's like 6-1 degree out and dumped a ton of snow!

all the best to you and yours and hope you recover swiftly!

praying 2022 is mo better :)

SNOW Is On The Ground Now To Bury The Nightmare.

So has this become a criminal investigation?

One of the comments mentions the Twelve Tribes cult.  Is that the same one that used to be in parking lots of Dead shows?

Yes. Same people afaik. They have a property right about where the fire started but there are other properties as well so let's not start any rumors. The utilities company has not found a downed line. The weird thing is that another fire broke out north of there at about the same time. The first thing we wondered was if somebody was setting fires.

Just flew back in to CO this weekend. The scale of loss (and speed in which it happened) is staggering.

Stringwang....let me know if you need ANYTHING. I'm in Denver all week.

Best of luck Stringwang, ned, and everyone else in Boulder!

Just learned of this last evening while in the middle of a cross country drive back home ... was fighting a relentless & ferocious wind all day yesterday through Texas and NM and can only imagine the chinook's

To add to Mason's post and link, here's a video of where and when the fire supposedly first started. Some have suggested this barn is near where the cult was. I'm not familiar with any of it.

Good luck, Stringtwang. Hope your life and others get back to some sense of normalcy soon.

Stringtwang, that photo is of West Mitten Butte in Monument Valley.

I can confirm that the burning shed is on the back side of the 12 tribes but can't confirm it to theirs. . There's only one other house between them and the parking area and it doesn't look like it is theirs.

Good news here is that gas was restored about an hour ago and the heat is on. Such a luxury.

Indoor heating in Colorado in the winter is a good thing.  Cheers!

yay for heat!!!  Congrats

Glad to hear your news!

Thanks for all the good thoughts and vibes. Clean water is being supplied at a couple of locations so things are feeling better for us. Sadly, not so much for 1000 households who lost everything.

Now on to the 12 Tribes connection.

I did some internet sleuthing today after seeing the video of the shed burning and discovered a couple of things. 1.The 12 Tribes has businesses like the Yellow Deli and has been investigated for child labor/abuse.

2.The burning shed had excavating equipment near it. CWS Excavating has the same address as 12Tribes Boulder.

This leads me to believe that the shed belonged to the 12 Tribes.

On the day of the fire, we were listening to the Sherrif and Fire channels on the web. As former volunteer firefighters and first responders, we know that is a good source of info during such an event.

Relatively early on there was an odd call for a Sherrif from a woman in NY who was calling Boulder because her daughter was being held against her will at a house on Eldorado Springs Drive near Boulder. Coincidentally, the 12 tribes compound is on Eldorado Springs Drive. Now I'm wondering if she started a fire as a way to get rescued from the cult. This is purely speculation on my part. I'm sure they are on law enforcement radar and likely being investigated in this matter. We shall see.

I'm wondering if she started a fire as a way to get rescued from the cult.<<<

If only this would work on a larger scale in our nation!

All kidding aside, it could be ... two little girls were starved to death by a cult who locked them in a vehicle with no food or water in Norwood, CO several years ago.  I imagine one might resort to anything creative to be free in such situations.

Glad your heat is restored!

Those red-bus'r folks are a strange breed. Maybe Karma is swinging back around for all of the vulnerable runaways they "saved". Too bad they had to burn down an entire subdivision or three in the process.

Just found out my good friend Ellen lost everything.

Wouldn't be surprised if a few Zoners know her too.

on another note the 12 tribes made national news.

Looks Iike snow coming in. Good for the ground but complicates the recovery.

Hahaha

there was no "tour" in 96

probably sounds heady when they tell it to a bunch of 20 year olds tho...

Must've been further or phish

Joe Biden is visiting tomorrow. Military Humvees at the entrances to the burn area. Heavy flyover a few minutes ago. I had to look up what I saw. Osprey V-22 and some big conventional helicopter.
