Last time they played Eugene I was up in the rafters and there was a shirtless wook dude three rows down from me having an experience. He got up on his seat and started preaching to the crowd, but then slipped and rolled three or four rows of seats down, crashing into people along the way. There was a collective audible gasp, but dude popped right up and started preaching again and nobody else was hurt. Eventually his girlfriend and rock med people were able to talk him down and take him elsewhere. He had to have been sore in the morning.
We have tickets for Wednesday. I'll be wearing two masks....not certain how comfortable we'll be indoors with such a large crowd...covid sure makes us enjoy outdoor seating!
We're in the 200 section ~ no plans on losing our balance!
I suspect nitrous, or alcohol, had something to do with the california fall.....kids these days, and in my day, felt so immortal....
I suspect there will be a fair number of no shows and empty seats. People are dumping their tix left and right for less than face which hopefully will make for a less crowded event.

One of my friends who I went with the show with just came down with the Covid. Thankfully, she is vaccinated and although feeling ill, will pull through ok. We drove down together and shared joints and a whiskey bottle all night, Got a test this afternoon and came back negative as did another member of our crew. I am convinced the whiskey kept everything sanitized.
Wow. This fall tour has been good. Those summer tour meandering jams to nowhere have found a direction. The jams have been dynamic and interesting (imo). Pardon the cliche, but they have taken it to a new level. (imo)
Only up to second night Eugene, looking forward to the rest of the tour.
Guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. One of my good friends up here is a longtime Phish fan. He told me he thinks they're washed up, and that Trey no longer has the ability to reach the heights of jamming he used to. He said he thinks he's through with them, and compares all the gushy talk about this tour to how Touchheads got all doe-eyed about the Vince years.
I'm neither here nor there with them, just like I've always been. I think they can still hit some nice jams, and was surprised to hear such a blanket condemnation from one of their longtime fans.
long time fan here as well. I was feeling much the same up until this tour. I was disappointed with the east coast leg of summer tour, AC was good. The west coast leg was better. Overall, summer tour, as well as the past several years, had me doubting that I'd make an effort to see them again. Trey is definitely different, machine gun trey is a thing of the past. But i believe that trey is a better musician now. Mike has become a really good songwriter and Page might be the most improved of the bunch.The whole band is just better. The difference for my ear are the jams. For a long time they would find a little groove and beat it to death. This is why i recently wrote that they were at their best keeping tunes to the 10 -15 minute range, they usually become very repetitive after that and really don't go anywhere. But I'm finding this tour different, they really haven't gotten stuck in a groove, the jams change. trey is not just repeating a single riff, or making ambient sounds, they seem to have direction... at least imo
I have read a lot of criticism that revolves around their jamming, and while I can agree that they aren't what they were when they were younger, I also agree with Lumber that they have advanced overall as musicians (been seeing them since they opened for Santana in I think '92).
Something that I think gets overlooked is how damn well they are playing the standard, non-jammed-out parts of their songs, many of which are super intricate and very cool even without the addition of a jam.
There was a time when they truly could have been considered washed up mainly because Trey (mostly) was butchering songs so badly that they were just painful to listen to, so as long as they continue playing their older, more technical songs mostly spot on, I will continue to go to the shows, even if the jamming isn't what it was. I mean, after 35 years I can't believe they can still play with such skill, enthusiasm and energy night after night. So many bands that I've loved since my youth are either gone or are diminished, so it's something I try to appreciated and not take for granted with Phish and the other remaining bands that are still going relatively strong.
I was generally underwhelmed by summer tour, save maybe Shoreline and a few other spots here and there. Yes, they are getting older and don't have the hungry energy they did in the 90's. Trey is really the wild card here. His vocal delivery can be half-assed sometimes, and he spends probably too much time shoegazing (dicking around with his pedals), and falling back on effects when inspiration is low. His technique has diminished somewhat, and probably has to practice 6 hours a day just to maintain. Also, the tempos can be really lagging sometimes. Still, they prove time and again they are truly a 'jamband', refined by years of listening and interaction, able to turn any musical corner in a single bound.
Fall tour started strong, especially with the vocals, but by Eugene were getting a bit baggy again. The jams have been all over the place; some exciting, some listless, nice textures and trippy sounds to dark and murky. Mike really goes deep sometimes, and brings Phil-like heaviness to proceedings (no surprise, since Mike basically copied his rig). Overall though, they are more inspired than when I saw them in 2014 or 2018. In 10 or 15 years, this may be remembered as another 'golden era'. Maybe so, maybe not.
I was surprised how few people kept their masks on....I did, and was way above the light show, thankfully. I don't need lights forced into my eyes. Five days later, no sniffles; I am still healthy! I suspect the gin shots helped.
Trey's voice was a bit tired, understandably, which altered their song choices, I suspect.
But overall, I am really glad I went. Haven't been to many shows in the past few years, and I danced hard.
I do wish, though, to hear the old stuff, back when I was in college and they were just beginning....
