Just got the Moderna boost. Line wasn't long but I had to wait a little. The injection site ran out of the Moderna, it just took a few minutes for a delivery.
My first side effect two/ three hours after injection hit me sort of hard. I too k a couple o' bong hits and tried to juggle three three dog ball toys. It didn't work.
How old or what comorbidities does one need for Moderna booster? I didn't know Moderna was doing boosters. Is it ok to get a Pfizer booster if I started w Moderna? Sorry for my ignorance and thank you to anyone who has answers.
Just contact a local pharmacy and ask if they have Moderna. Make an appointment and get the 3rd shot. Check the box for whatever comorbidities apply, or just say your doc recommends it - they don't care.
Over 50 former tobacco smoker is a qualifier in my state. It was/is total self assement Another words my PC's offce said simply check mark the " other" hash mark on the qualifier questionnaire. plenty of supply in the States for all who want the first or third dose. In fact many distributors have been tossing left over doses. 15 million excess doses trashed since March.
I waited until late May and mid June to get my two-dose Pfizer regimen, all the while observing COVID protocols while running my business and interacting with the public on a daily basis. Although on the frontlines, my work was not deemed "essential" by the policy makers. Being under 60 and generally healthy, I managed my own health and got by, while others who lied about their situation jumped the line, while working remotely and having Amazon or some other delivery service bring them all their neccesities. Now all these cheaters are jumping the line again. Sort of like the d-bags who try to sneak as far as possible around a congested line of traffic and cut their way in at the last moment, holding up the people in their lane trying to go another way. It reeks of entitlement. Guess you skipped that Ethics class.
The silver lining of getting my second shot so late, is I won't need a booster until early next year, at which point, the pandemic will hopefully be nearing its' end.
For the record I did not jump the line Mr. Herbal I got my shot 3/21 six days after my comorbidities qualified me on 3/15 and will do the same w my booster get it when i qualify, i did take note that CVS didn't ask for my doctors note or anything else hence my comment above. the confusing part is 3rd dose of Moderna. It's not yet officially approved however many pharmacies will provide a 3rd booster of Moderna anyway for qualifying individuals and many doctors are directing patients to just get the 3rd Moderna booster.
Received this message which provides some additional clarification, your State and/or Health Care provider may vary
>To our Community Members,
Your health and safety are our top priority. We are pleased to share with you our plans to provide COVID-19 booster shots to our community and our patients.
We continue to follow guidance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Following the FDA’s authorization of booster shots for certain groups, the CDC has provided its recommendations for COVID-19 vaccine booster shots. Stanford Health Care will begin administering these doses to eligible individuals on September 29.
Who should get a booster?
The CDC recommends a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine six months after initial vaccination for people who are 65 and older and those aged 50 to 64 with health problems that put them at high risk of severe disease. The CDC also recommends that a booster dose may be considered for people age 18 to 49 who have an underlying medical condition and those whose jobs may put them at higher risk of exposure, including health care workers.
It’s important to remember that, when it comes to reducing infections and hospitalizations in the community, the benefits of vaccinating people who are unvaccinated are much greater than booster doses. People with healthy immune systems who were fully vaccinated are still very well protected. They have a lower chance of being seriously ill, hospitalized, or dying of COVID-19. Our goal is to help our patients and community gain a strong level of protection and keep it over the coming months.
Scheduling a booster shot
Booster shots for eligible patients will be available at most of our vaccination locations. Patients can schedule an appointment through MyHealth, which will require them to complete an attestation about their eligibility.
Vaccines are also available at many health organizations and retail pharmacies. We encourage you to get your vaccine or booster shot at the most convenient and accessible provider for you. If you get a vaccine from a provider other than Stanford Health Care, please let your primary care doctor know. You can send them a message through MyHealth.
Third (3rd) doses for patients with weakened immune systems
The CDC also recommends that people whose immune systems are moderately to severely compromised should receive a third (3rd) dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, only after 28 days or more following their second dose. Stanford Health Care is now scheduling appointments for our established patients who are eligible for a third (3rd) dose.
Stay updated
Please check our COVID-19 vaccination website for up-to-date information, locations, and to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine or booster shot.
What about Moderna? Looks like there's no recommendation yet from Moderna but people are getting Moderna boosters anyway. According to the above I qualify now although late Oct. is 6 months for me.
What I hearing is that you can ask for Moderna and receive it if you qualify for a booster.
Again, check with your local pharmacy. Pharmaca in our area has Moderna and are giving 3rd boosters to anyone who checks a qualifying health condition box or 'other' box.
>Studies are indicating a 50 mg dose will suffice.
A pediatrician I spoke to seemed to think that that weight needs to be taken into consideration, specifically for the dosage for children 5-11. Huge range, and for adults too.
Got my Moderna booster today. Doin' just fine, just like the first two. Sore arm, but that's it so far.
Got a Pneumonia 23 in late September (purposely spaced them a month or so apart) and had big time swelling in the arm for a few days. Nurse friend I spoke to today said 1 in 5 have a reaction.
Don't wait to get the boost, a local friend has been sick for 11 days.. she was scheduled to get her 3rd dose this week.

To me, that is worrisome.”
Getting mine today. Good article in the NYT today about what's next
Yet Wachter — the chair of the medicine department at the University of California, San Francisco — also worries about the downsides of organizing our lives around Covid....
...Given this reality, Wachter, who’s 64, has decided to resume more of his old activities and accept the additional risk that comes with them, much as we accept the risk of crashes when riding in vehicles.....
....“I’m still going to be thoughtful and careful,” Wachter told The San Francisco Chronicle. But “if I’m not going to do it now, I’m probably saying that I’m not going to do it for the next couple of years, and I might be saying I’m not doing it forever.”
The hospitalization statistics in highly vaccinated communities help explain Wachter’s attitude. In Seattle (which publishes detailed data), the daily Covid hospitalization rate for vaccinated people has been slightly above one in one million. By comparison, the flu hospitalization rate in a typical year in the U.S. is more than twice as high. For most vaccinated people in a place like Seattle or San Francisco, Covid already resembles just another virus.
As for long Covid, it is real but rare. It’s also not unique. The flu and other viruses also cause mysterious, lasting problems for a small share of people, studies show.
The bottom line is that Covid now presents the sort of risk to most vaccinated people that we unthinkingly accept in other parts of life. And there is not going to be a day when we wake up to headlines proclaiming that Covid is defeated. In many ways, the future of the virus has arrived
I'm now getting tested every two weeks now, and expect to have to get another booster in a few month.
Good news is that I have a paid part-time job checking vaccinations at events and the gig pays well. Originally the company was contracted through February, but I don't expect the demand for the company's services to end anytime soon.
