Democratic Senator Warnock easily won reelection in the run off held on Jan 10th 2023, but in 2021 Georgia created a new chair of the State Election Board, filling a post previously held by the Secretary of State with a "nonpartisan" executive appointed through the Republican controlled legislature. The newly appointed Election Executive ruled that there were unspecified irregularities in the vote and have certified Republican Kemp instead of Warnock. In a 5-4 decision the Supreme Court ruled on a technicality that they wouldn't interfere with state law and the certification of Kemp will stand. Kemp's certification tips the ballance for the Republicans who now control the Senate 51 to 49. Senate Majority Leader McConnell said the Supreme Court has decided and United States must up hold the rule of law.
