Ye Olde Lakers

Forums:

Lebron & the Geezers have now added 6 players age 32 or older in Free Agency, the most in NBA history, the latest being Carmelo Anthony.

This will not end well.

Why not start these threads in The sports Folder? That's an actual inquiry about why we're not using that Folder?

Oh there is already a thread on this in the folder but considering no one goes there except twice a year there is no real reason.   Plus considering this folder can use some life I support any new threads that excite and energize this place.

Now then....back to the purple and the golden girls.   This will be an interesting mix.   I think if they can find some young energy, defenders and 3 point shooters they might be fine.

Judit is right. This thread really doesn't belong here. It should be more clicks away.

Sports folder?

Lakers medical staff is going to be busy

everything politics especially

The Folder Police

Gonna let you off with a warning this time

I was a regular in the Philzone Sports Folder, but I never even look in the Viva one.

Is there a cost or extra effort that goes into maintaining multiple folders here? If so, or even if not perhaps just dropping it would make things easier, since it's pretty clear that for whatever it's worth, sports talk on Viva happens here in Other Stuff.

As for the Lakers, I don't really know anything about most of the players they're adding. I know that Westbrook is a "star" player, but for some reason it seems he moves to a different team every season. Otherwise, from what I've read I'm hearing that most of the players they've added are all poor defenders, which is never good.

One can always hope.

GW!

This will be an interesting mix.>>>

I would take Denver with Murray coming back & Porter Jr rising, and the roster of Utah & Phoenix.

Put them even with the other LA Team, and the great unknown, the Warriors.  One of the 6 best teams in the West.

Anthony Davis plays defense, will he get any help??

One last ride on the banana boat, Turtle will be in hell

I agree with Knotesau
not to mention the political threads

The Bulls are putting something exciting together

^yes, they are

i love russel westbrook.

sure wish we would have kept curuso.

with the modern "jack-a-three" nba...i think we will have some issues...

we still got the kid, THT.

I was merely articulating a question I've had for awhile about why we don't use some of the Folders. Since I read just about everything that's posted I have a sense of the rhythm and placement of posts and it's become something that interests me.

Using the Travel Folder means the threads are easy to find and go back to since they don't drop to oblivion in O.S.
I liked reading Tim's stories of Ted's football and college life, all in one place.

We set the Folders up in the continuation of the look and function of the PZ. We've added Travel and Cannabis. There's no extra cost nor extra effort in having the less used Folders and they're here for the future.

>>>sure wish we would have kept curuso<<<

I just read an article in the Athletic that said letting him leave was a major mistake, and in that writer's opinion was really the only one the Lakers made.

He said if they'd kept Caruso they would have had the best roster in the league, and if healthy they'll be close anyway, with some questions about defense.

Sounds like the Lakers loaded up on scorers... jack-a-three for Turtle!

A lot of talk about Hield over Westbrook.  I get concerned Westbrook clogs the middle but I think he has a hunger for a championship in his hometown.   Melo is a liability but at this point, they need someone to sit on the bench.  He's just not who you want in crunch time (See Lance's point about defense).  As one "expert" noted, this is a very old team but he wouldn't at all be surprised if they win.  They were up on the Suns before injuries and I have to think this is a more dangerous team than last year.  Not sure the Jazz, Suns or Dubs will threaten this team, just like the Nets should be fine if they stay healthy.   As a side note, I'm happy for foshizzlemontrezel who will likely get real playing time in his new home.

Judit, I think it really comes down to users at this point.  Some days we're down to as few as 6 or 7 active threads and O.S which is/was the main hub of activity on the zone.  Without the original draw of Phil doing shows that inspired larger groups of people seeking to meet, connect, listen, etc around him as the center point, the rate of usage is vastly down.  And without users who would frequent those dark corners, people have turned to O.S. to engage the few who actually come here. This thread already has 18 posts in a few days while the push I did on the months-old Lakers thread barely has over 5 and not a single response to the push.  So if you want a conversation, I think it makes sense to post it here.  Or we can just ask Dave what the hell he was thinking.

I'd be curious if you have data on how many users are active on a regular basis versus "the others".   It's surprising who comes out of the woodwork when there is sad news and it's great to see old friends. Is the greater mass just lurkers?  I have to think the trend is in the wrong direction and if the hope is to pump this place up then there may need to be a new draw.  BSZone for Billy Strings or W-zone.  Lord knows he can create some drama.  Just my .02

LeBron just did not look like his old dominating self this past year due to an injury, but he is also old and may be injured more often in the coming year. Father Time is a mother fucker and still undefeated, Brady is battling but will also lose in the end. The west is too loaded, the Lakers will have to show up every night with everyone suited up during the season. The regular season is going to wear them down, and on top of that we all know Davis is lazy, losing Drummond hurt.

I thought I made it perfectly clear what I think in the OP.  The Lakers are old in pro basketball years.  The experience is a plus, but their bodies are creeky, and doubtful to hold up to the rigors of the long NBA season.  Westbrook is a fierce competitor and will push his teammates, but won't be able to keep their bodies from breaking down.  I'm more than happy with the package the Wizards received for him, and am liking the team they are building around Beal.  The signing of Spencer Dinwiddie yesterday was another good move.

I'll try to keep the Sports threads in the Sports folder from here on.

Father Time is a mother fucker and still undefeated <<<<

I Know That All Too Well.

<<I'll try to keep the Sports threads in the Sports folder from here on.

that sucks as i would have never seen the thread.

I like the less mouse clicks but I'm lazy

And it goes for months sometimes in The Folder without a post

I'm the only person posting in the tennis thread these days, someday someone will come along who is interested and join me. I hope.

>>>I'll try to keep the Sports threads in the Sports folder from here on<<<

Yeah, but those will be like Bryen threads - 19 posts but all from the OP.

Zang, there are a lot of lurkers. I don't have numbers but there are quite a few more lurkers than active posters. Speaking of lurkers, Zoner Lurker showed up in the Days Between thread.

>>> Yeah, but those will be like Bryen threads - 19 posts but all from the OP. <<<

That's me in the Tennis thread, I guess.
