OK, this isn't intended to be Bobby bashing as I love the man's approach and sound, and have seen every solo incarnation since the Heaven Help The Fool tour, but.....Snoozevile. I try, and Greg adds some nice color touches on the peddle steele, as do the Wolfpack, but I can't get psyched for WB. They have kind of hit a plateau with little growth. Bring back the Midnites......Bobby seems happy and fulfilled with this outfit, so rock on. Enjoy if you go.
I saw Ratdog at the Greek, guessing summer 2005'ish. When they opened up Set II with a plodding and off-key Blackbird, we split to a dance club in the city. If you're going to be submitted to bad music, at least be surrounded by pretty girls.
Ah yes thanks Terry, looks like it was 2001 and the Blackbird was mid set. Admittedly I blacked-out about a good 10 years, hence details are a bit haze.
I've seen that YT video before and it's smokin" I like to see the fans grooving like that rather then see the band the whole show. Must have been fun to be at that one.
I doubt the Wolf Bros with get the Greek shaking like that!
Damn in the minority again. I thoroughly enjoyed Bobby as the sole guitarist in Wolf Brothers, except the new cowboy songs. Would love to see this band with the horns and steel guitar
I saw both Red Rocks' shows and thought the first night was flat, but really enjoyed the second. I think the entire band had a hard time gelling on night one, but I think the big difference with night two was that Bobby really "showed up" in spirit - which makes all the difference in the world! As I get older, the more I realize how the dynamic of "there are some good days some not so good" becomes more prevalent; let alone regarding those days where you're really just in tune with the greater forces that are out there being fewer.
Having said that, after it was all said and done I realized that it took two days to see a good show materialize, yet at the same time I don't think I'd really want to see more than two days in a row of this ensemble. This sort of general take on "the odds" holds true for other incarnations, but the balance of the equation can be much more favorable. Say what you want about Ratdog, I would be willing to roll the dice to scale up the total number of shows and grin and bear the flat shows in effort to see more "on" shows (especially with Kimock).
Put another way: while I find the new arrangement-based format of Wolf Bros as a sort of "mini-orchestra" to be very interesting, it holds a shorter shelf life for my interest vs. the more traditional GD format that integrates a true melodic guitarist that is more free to roam.
As I get older, the more I realize how the dynamic of "there are some good days some not so good" becomes more prevalent>>>
Ace is turning 74 in less than 4 months, leading 2 bands.
Haven't seen Bob headline a show since Ratdog in 2004, due to his slowing down of the material, but I give him a ton of respect for handling this workload when he's 12 years my senior.
>> We'll, the second Greek show will be announced after Saturday sell out.
Bobby couldn't come close to selling out the Marin Civic Center (2,000) or the Fox Theater (2,800) for the Campfire tour in 2016 but we think he's going to sell out the Greek (8,500) which is significantly larger than those two venues combined?

Looks like Bobby played Berkeley Greeks twice with Ratdog - both times at 'festivals' ->
2001 "So Many Roads Festival" with Ratdog, Rusted Root, Karl Denson, & Keller Williams
and
2005 "Comes a Time Musical Tribute to Jerry Garcia featuring all surviving original GD members who's kids weren't currently enrolling in college"
setlists here
