No wonder, it's Mads Tolling.
How long has he been a part of this deal?
Bob just keeps adding quality to this group.
And there's nothing wrong with that.
From what little I've heard, it seems that some backing vocal additions wouldn't hurt, but otherwise this is a pretty good sounding, and pretty different sounding group.
Atta' boy Bobby.

He sure gets around.
And Greg Leisz gets around too.
He plays with lots of great artists, perhaps the greatest being Master Charles Lloyd, in his brilliant group The Marvels, with Eric Harland, Bill Frisell & Reuben Rogers.

Love the pedal steel, adds such a wonderful dimension to the music, and the horn / string arrangements are great.
Black Throated Wind really shines with this lineup, always a fave Bobby tune

I enjoyed it - and the Strat/Dylan story was way cool too - but by the end, Weir comfortably slid back into his rocker persona. While I prefer the rogue cowboy vibe that the expanded Wolf Bros had over the winter streams from TRI I have no real complaints overall though!

Yeah, I agree.
I suspect he has been slowing down a bit in general ... a natural flipside byproduct of his inherent musical gift. But yeah, the arrangements with a larger ensemble and different textures allow Bobby to work the slower tempos in some interesting ways. It's almost as if he's figured out a way to adapt in spite of his body not being what it once was. The thought occurred to me last evening (again) that out of all the surviving members, he's got the most "uphill battle" in terms of replicating the full projection of his former self as a function of his role as a guitarist to define the "form" of a song combined with a lead vocalist. If Phil or the drummers lose a step here or there, it mostly flies under the radar, but with Bobby the change is far more "visible".

I recall him saying he had a
I recall him saying he had a hard time playing his parts at rock and roll tempos. (Phil and Billy don't, they still rock hard! ). I've just always liked rocking out to the dead... but with this elevator music version of the dead, which I was never a fan of, the voicings and arrangements are such, he's actually putting out excellent elevator music... and it's really growing on me (in a good way). So Kudos to Bobby for keeping up the Grateful tradition, while accommodating his aging bones, and putting out some of the best work he's done since the dead (IMHO).

So, faster ain't gonna happen. How 'bout a little louder? Especially with the expanded lineup. Be nice if he cut through a little more.
Not looking for that 90s Bob where he sounded like grinding gears on the Jerry ballads
.
Just a slight volume boost.
