Sup Zoners,
My buddy and I are going out to Oregon in May for a week... gonna be bringing our skateboards and hiking gear. Any recommendations or anything? I was reading some things may be closed from fires/everything else fucked up going on. Looking for some adventure!

It is currently recommended
It is currently recommended that nobody travel to Oregon from out of state due to Covid. Things might be better in May if vacs. continue at the present rate.

With more and more people
With more and more people getting vaccinated, things are slowly opening up again. I still avoid going into restaurants and stores, but I should be eligible for the vaccine next month and hopefully the Covid will be a non-issue for most people soon..
The Oregon coast is a must see and shouldn't be rushed. A week should allow you to check out the whole coast from Brookings near the California border on up to Astoria at the mouth of the Columbia.
Eugene is ok, but unless live music starts up again by May, might not be a whole lot to do except skate around town and get beers in an outdoor setting.
High country can still have snow in May, but there is an abundance of hiking opportunities throughout the state. Let us know when you have firmed up your plans and we can give you more specific recommendations depending on what parts of the state you will be in.

Potential tours in Oregon to
Potential tours in Oregon to consider (along w/ the coast as Ken suggests);
Waterfalls, hot springs, rock hounding, volcanoes, caves (lava and limestone), old growth forest (have some on my mining claim above Cottage Grove you're welcome to visit), artisan foods, and wineries!
(Corvallis has a nice skate park).

There is a small group of us here. Moses and I meet up occasionally (not often enough for either of us) but are both very careful cautious about Covid. I will be vaccinated by then but will still be cautious and depending where I'm at with cancer treatment I might be able to get together. I'd love to see you, Jay.

See and hear the sea lions every time I am at Yaquina Bay. They will steal your bait and wreck your crab traps if you are not careful.

Since you will have your skateboard you probably already know there is a cool skate park in Eugene underneath an overpass. I went to one like that in Portland also. It must be a rain thing. Perfect place for one.

^ FIRE! That place looks like a rainforest that any fire would be drowned out. Very green and lush. What a shame. Must have been a dry time there.

Moses and I are getting together on Thursday. It always feels good when we're seeing each other.
Jay, the volcanic stuff to the east is both interesting and pretty incredible. And it only takes a couple of hours to get up there.

Thanks for the tips everyone.
Thanks for the tips everyone.. I know it's a tough time to travel and everything.. most of what we want to do involves being outdoors. My buddy is in charge of finding the skate spots and I'm tasked with doing some research into natural/outdoorsy things. Naturally, reaching out here to the Zone is part of my process.
Judit,
I'd like seeing you as well- I'll touch base with you as the dates approach and maybe we can figure something out. I hope you're well.
