Phil Lesh in Bass Player Magazine, Feb 2021

Sweet--thanks for posting.  And bonus, if you go the full version of the Bass Player Magazine that has this--also on the cover of this issue Jack Casady's current/latest Epiphone bass.  Come on, the two best rock n roll bassists and their axes in one issue...nice

Very nice indeed. Did you take the time to scan these, Noodler? I appreciate the effort however you did it.

Is "Big Brown" a different bass?

Yes. Here's Big Brown:

Mice elf,

I'm familiar with the Kabbalah and Talmud yet I've never seen that Hebrew schematic before that I can recall.   Could you  to enlighten me? Thanks.

Pretty crazy that a salvage company got it when the storage on it wasn't paid.

That's a beautiful instrument.   Be nice to see it in Phil's hands again.

Bob; Im not Jewish and don't know what it means or even what the connection is.
My observation is that this diagram seems to be the same one inlaid in LED's on this bass.

would just like to hear the zone's thoughts on that, if there are any.

Mice,
Where did you come across it? I'd be curious if any other zoners know anything about it.

Mice I got my answers. It is the Kabbalah representation of the Tree of Life. Not sure why I didn't recognize it as I've seen it in different depictions or configurations.  It is very mystical. In any event for anyone interested:

The Tree of Life, or Etz haChayim (עץ החיים) in Hebrew, is a classic descriptive term for the central mystical symbol used in the Kabbalah of esoteric Judaism, also known as the 10 Sephirot, and the 22 Paths. Its diagrammatic representation, arranged in 3 columns/pillars, may derive from older sources and is not known to the earlier Jewish tradition.[citation needed] The tree represents a series of divine emanations of God's creation itself ex nihilo, the nature of revealed divinity, the human soul, and the spiritual path of ascent by man. In this way, Kabbalists developed the symbol into a full model of reality, using the tree to depict a map of Creation.

I love Phil.

Well there we go

get shown the light

Phil really is a bad ass motherfucker.

What they don't mention is Phil stopped playing it because it was always in the shop for tweaking and repairs and he got fed up and went back to basics (bass-ics?) with a Fender Jazz, G&L, and the Irwin, before settling in on 6 string basses. Hard to believe a then-$20 000 bass would get 'forgotten' in a storage locker.

Holy shit

A great instrument. I was lucky to see him play it numerous times.

I wish he was playing it tomorrow.

The back of the guitar comes off as two "wings" which allow access to the inner cavities and electronics, in case anyone is wondering what all those screws are for.

the eyes (iris/pupil parts) in the stealie inlay are opals, and the "whites" are inlaid of hashish.

exquisite

>>>>>and the "whites" are inlaid of hashish.

Another instance of white privilege.
