Do those actually work on a kitchen sink as pictured with the "grating" (just not sure how much gunk can go through the smaller holes in grating)?  ... been putting off biting the bullet and pulling apart the pipes below, but it's still in dire need of getting unclogged.

They work amazingly on bathroom sinks, and on hair clogs in the shower that are higher up. I have a  mesh strainer in the kitchen sink so that I don't have to deal with food clogs anymore.

Thanks, might give it a try ... I see there's a lot of different assortment packs with augers and such.

Regarding sink clogs ~ the old baking soda (first), then vinegar trick always worked for me. It may take a few pours, but it has worked.

Sometimes a metal coat hanger, re-twisted, can work also.  Lots of uses for those things<<<

Thanks, tried baking soda then vinegar, kind of worked a little bit ... actually just bought a bunch more, so will keep trying on this front.  Also tried a coat hanger, but it could't get past  a bend.  I'm afraid the clog is where the pipe from this second basin meets the drain from the first basin and disposal ... so might have to pull out the disposal and fitting it's attached to really get at this clog.  It's been 15 years, so picturing worse case scenario caked build up ... especially if the smell is any indicator.

I used to have a shitty garbage disposal. Every time I tried to grind potato peels I'd have to take the whole sink apart.

It may be worthwhile to get a snake. The shorter ones are manageable. The long ones are are annoying, but they work on those clogs way down the pipe.

Dollar Tree fake Drane-O does fine -- "Mr. Plumber".  The key is to have Hot water in drain line, then add the stuff, wait a few hours,  flush with Hot water.

A few sprinkles of common dish detergent in the Mix makes the stuff Foam up a bit,  which helps.

The upstairs shower drain gets slow about once a month,  and above procedure makes it flow again.  I have a screen dome over the drain to prevent hair getting in there.

Newer papayas have keyless entry.

I had many clogs in the kitchen drains (pipes are level, not slanting downward), for years. I used the vinegar/baking soda method but it would only work for so long and then made things wose. The last guy who came to deal with them told me to pour a pot of boiling water down the drain once a week. I try to remember to do that and am reminded by the occasional yucky smell. Boiling water in each sink drain with a splash of liquid dishwashing soap - it really works.

I have one of those drain cleaners, works well.  When I pull it out of the bathroom sink drain or my shower drain, I get a black slimy substance.  Not sure what the fuck it is or where it comes from. Any ideas?

I owned one of the plastic drain-cleaning thangs about a week,  but it was Krap Chinese plastic and broke. Fortunately it didn't leave part of its corpse in the drain line.

kB's item is definitely a tropical Fruit tool. The fabricated machine on the pointy end is for pulling out those fibers surrounding the seed Bed.

The ridges on the side are for scraping against a dried Gourd to make raspy percussion sounds.

Toucans and other similar Tropical Birds love that raspy sound as they are chowing down on Papaya,  Guava, and similar overripe Fruit.  They throw the gooey fruit against nearby walls in their delight.

I believe it's a key similar to a jet ski or snow blower. It is a kill switch to the power when removed. If you fall off a jet ski, the key pulls out because it is attached to the driver by a lanyard.  I've never jet skied, but I've definitely fallen off the wagon. 

It's on a key chain ring, so it needed to be handy.

Definitely a cocaine sampling device.
