Action Park - Vernon, NJ

Forums:

I watched a documentary on HBO Max called Class Action Park about a waterslide park in Vernon, NJ. After watching it I thought, there has to be some people on the zone who had been there in the late 70s/ 80s or early 90s. Crazy this place was not closed after the first death, or second death, or third... The go-karts and Honda Odyssey tracks looked fun. Not sure I would have enjoyed the water features though.

I went all the time. My older brother guided me through the dangers. He would point out all the injured people on the alpine slide as we would go up the lift. “ that’s what happens when you go too fast” “ you have to let go on the tarzan swing or your going to slam into the deck” Don’t drown in the wave pool ... the go karts were amazing. What we didn’t know was that the whole place was run by idiots and if you did get hurt you were fucked. They used to have the playboy club up there too I heard crazy stories from my parents it was like no mans land up there

funny what they thought vernon nj would turn into.

i love how the highway split the park up into parts.

awesome doc to watch, totally fucked up shit went down at action park lol.

All sorts of memories of Action Park and the Playboy Club. I actually liked the idea that you could get injured on some of the rides. It made them a bit more exciting but then again, I don't like making "extreme" activities safe from lawsuits. I like the French program better...if it's extreme you understand that you might die and accept that risk. No law suits allowed.

Sometimes risks presented themselves at the Playboy Club, too. I was taking class to get my insurance license and there was a woman who was in class with me. We had a few beers at lunch together and I found out that she always wanted to check out the club. I had a key so I said let's go. We did and it was pretty deserted on a mid week mid afternoon. We had a few drinks and ended up in a practice sand trap without our clothes on. After some wedge practice, we brushed ourselves off and got ready to leave. I noticed some holes in the side of her car and asked about them. It was then she told me that she was married and her husband was currently in jail for shooting up her car with her in it and those holes were bullet holes. She also informed me that it would be best not to see each other again as he was getting out of jail in a few days. As much as I wanted to, I decided that the risk was not worth the reward.

The nickname was "Traction Park" because visitors often wound up 'In Traction'.

My parents would not take me there,  for whatever reason.  Seemed like harmless Fun.

However,  I managed to break a leg skiing Vernon Valley in 6th or 7th grade.  My first Ski attempt.  One ski/leg stopped on a grass patch while the other ski/leg continued down the ice.  Spiral fracture was the result.

I was there. Water slides were crazy. You could literally free fall 30ft or more off the giant slide before you made contact with it. Water chute tubes were wild too. People flying out and crashing into each other. Water was freezing. Whole park was a wild scene. Probably the most unsupervised place I've ever been.

I remember wanting to go. Maybe it was a good thing.
My brother went and survived it.

I was there a bunch. Lost a fingernail on the Alpine Slide. If you weren't bleeding when you left, you hadn't done it right.

Place sounds awesome. The shooting gallery must've been a real hoot.

I still have scars, 6 of them, 3 on each side of my body, in the same location on @ side from the Alpine slide...I Think The Band Meteor, or Timberwolf was playing.

We used to go to sea isle, Long Beach island and sometimes Great Adventure in the 70s. I could barely handle the stairs to the Lightning Loops so don't think I could've handled a place like that!

Crazy stuff, fun documentary
