Fillmore East February 13, 1970

Forums:

Friday, the 13th:  Black Sabbath's first album is released, The Who performed at Leeds, The Grateful Dead played at New York's Fillmore East.

This is my favorite Dark Star.  I'm sure we could talk about that for a while.  Anyway, find your copy and enjoy.  Fifty one years later this cold February day.

Long Live The Grateful Dead!

Good day to dig out Bear's Choice.

Great posting about a possible club date between the two classic Fillmore shows on the 11th & 13th.

According to the article krab linked, that Ugano's recording is the first set from 2/13/70.

Cool read, krab. I'm just learning about Janet Soto's list (which is linked in the lostlivedead article) now.

Sweet edit, dolittle.

Barry, this is my favorite Dark Star, too!

Different show, but what a marquee!

Yeah I read the reviews and they said it wasn't the 12th show so deleted.

Here is supposed footage of the 14th Dark Star

As fantastic as that footage of February 1970 is I don't think it's 2/13.  I know every note of that dark star and I really don't think that's it.  As I type these words I am again struck by the fact that it there is a difference that COULD be noticeable.

Long Live The Grateful Dead!

Barry it's the 14th not 13th. They played Dark Star on the 14th also.

Isn't the 2/13 dark star performed on February 14 proper(after midnight).

I linked the 14th show above at the last seconds. 13th total different setlist. Looks like they opened with it on the 14th.

I am stupified. After almost 40 years and scores of listening to that dark star I still get goosebumps.

Long Live The Grateful!

I've been sorting this out for years.  These shows ran so late it's hard to tell when starts and the other begins. The dark star in question was part of the 2-13 late show that was mainly performed after midnight.  There were so many mislabeled tapes everybody's perception of that run is different.  Old time zoners remember heated debate as to whether there even Two shows per night (which actually involved Bear if I recall)
Long Live The Grateful Dead!

That set list above is a mess.  Check setlist.com

Setlist.com only shows three sets for 02/13/1970, but the running order of songs is the same. Here's what Deadbase 50 has for the entire run.

Hey Krab,

Interesting read about Ungano's .  There is an apt building at the address and a revolving list of restaurants that have occupied  part of the ground floor. It also happens to be next door to my son's elementary school and we walk by it often.  I never knew the history of the space and how the GD played there.   It will be one more GD fact I can through at my kids to annoy them.

Fantastic Fillmore shot... probably 5 bucks a pop for those shows. Wow...

Disputes over Fillmore East setlists/shows?

Where's Blackie & Owsley when you need them?

>>>probably 5 bucks a pop for those shows<<<

And probably people bitched about it.

Happy 51 Anniversary, 2-14-1970.

I'm still upset my uptight Non-Show-attending Parents didn't take me there at age five.

Squares.

Five dollars bought a lot of stuff in 1970.  A pizza was probably a couple of bucks, just sayin'.

It looks like tickets were $3.50, $4.50, and $5.50, except for Tuesdays, when it was $1.50 for what looks like a new talent showcase.
